Hello, I have a client (customer) who asked the question : "Why would I buy and use UDB, when MySql is free?" I had to say I was stunned. I have no experience with MySql, so I was left sort of stammering and sputtering, and managed to pull out something I heard a couple of years back - that there was no real transaction safety in MySql. In flight transactions could be lost.

To whom it may concern: I find the recent articles in various trade publications a little disturbing due to the lack of PostgrSQL mention. I continue to see articles about how IBM may be considering MYSQL for development an open_source web database. Why isn't PostgreSQL being considered or talked about by major industry giants? As a DBA I know that Postgres is far superior to MYSQL but if the industry directs it's energies towards...

I have a question about the design of a specific mysql database. My newsserver hasn't got many specific mysql related newsgroups and those who are supported don't seem to be very active. Since many of the MySQL work goes hand in hand with PHP this seemed the best place to ask. Advice on a better place to shop for info is very welcome. My issue:

I am attempting to write an invoicing system that uses a MySQL database to store invoices, product pricing, and customer contact info. I would like to automatically fill in the customer's contact info after typing in the first and last name, and the product pricing info after typing in the product name. From my searches I've...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
