Hello
I was wondering if there were any reasons why I would not want to just
use MySql as a standalone server, instead of having requests brokered.
The client is a java application, not applet and MySql is behind a
firewall. The client would need to access the database from outside
the firewall. Also, the client would only read data from the db and
never change it. I started writing a java server to broker client
requests, which are all requests for information from the database,
and was wondering if there was any good reason to be doing this,
instead of connecting to MySql directly.
This is probably a dumb question, but this is my first time with db's,
client servers, java, etc...
Thank you,

Is it possible to set up replication on a shared mySQL server, i.e.
have the replication only concern the databases that I have access to,
without changing the entire server setup? (This will probably be in a
shell account on a Linux box)
I basically have 2 server, one which I have full controll over and a
second (backup) that I will share with other people. I want to set up
a two-way replication between these, so that server 1 can go...

before posting to the bugs-list I would like to try it here to get some help :).
Every now and then MySQL-4.0.13 crashes on my Dual-Athlon-MP-machine.
Its not reproducible nor I know a query which does it.

Hi!
I'm not sure if this is the most adequate mySQL list for this post. If not,
please indicat me which one I should use...
I'm using Tomcat 4.1.24 with Apache 2 and MySQL 4.0.13. I have the mysql-
connector-java-2.0.14-bin.jar in commons/lib.
The application runs normally, and usually about once or twice a day I get
this exception org.apache.commons.dbcp.DbcpException:
java.sql.SQLException: Server configuration denies access to data...

Questions for anyone with experience on this topic...
Sit: We're running a standalone server with applications/db's written
around 3.23.41. Linux R/H 7.2 with updates. This is an Apache
production server (currently in operation w/12 co domains) and we're
about to launch new apps using Mysql now that the s/w is complete.
Before we do this, there is a lingering q of whether or not to take
advantage of a 4.x upgrade at this time, before...

Hi
I am currently reviewing our backup procedures. Part of the issue has been
finding the right fit. There are obviously backup products that provide
mysql agents but unfortunately can not for fill our complete backup/disaster
requirements. I have evaluated bakbone, arkeia, brightstor, veritas. I am
currently looking at evault, commvault and ipstor.
I am now looking to separate mysql from the rest of the backup. I am
looking to...

In a PHP book from 2001 it states that C:\mysql\bin> --standalone
will work to get the process running in the background, yet it doesnt
recognize the standalone command. Was this omitted in 4.x?

Hello,
I just installed MySQL 4.0.18 on my Win2K computer. Once it installed, I
ran the WinMySQLAdmin program and everything worked fine. The little green
light was on, and I could connect to my databases.
However, as soon as I restarted my computer, the green light changed to a
red light, and since then I've been unable to connect to my databases. When
I open WinMySQLAdmin, the "Server" group box on the Environment page is...

I've made a function to fetch all results as an array of result-
arrays. Getting the result arrays is easy, via mysql_fetch_array, and
function itself is quite simple, as follows:
function db_query($db, $query)
{
$result = mysql_query($query, $db);
$res_array = array();
if ($result) //it is a search

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
