How to get the last auto increment key value for child tables

Hi,

How to find out the last insert primary key value when a field is auto
incremented. Select the maximum value from the table is not an option
because users can add rows very quickly.

First I have to insert the values for table t_id. The value of id is needed
to insert for table t_idreply. How to
get the primary key value for t_id ?

CREATE TABLE `t_id` (
`id` bigint(20) NOT NULL auto_increment,
`subject` varchar(128) NOT NULL default '',
PRIMARY KEY (`id`),
) TYPE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT= 1;

CREATE TABLE `t_idreply` (
`id` int(11) NOT NULL default '0',
`volgnr` int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment,
`reply` longtext,
PRIMARY KEY (`id`,`volgnr`)
) TYPE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT= 1 ;

Thanks a lot

Is it possible to have multiple auto increments in one column? Say I have two tables... 1. table 'messageboards' with fields ('id' , 'name') 2. table 'messagethreads' with fields ('id' , 'messagethread' , 'messageboard_id') The 'messagethreads.id' column could have multiple auto increments. Then I could easily query a messageboard with ("SELECT * FROM

Hi all, I have a table with an “autonumber” primary key field that also acts as a foreign key in 2 other tables. I would like to programmatically add a new record to the first table and the other 2 child tables. The reason for doing this is to copy one complete record (parent and child table records) into a new record so the user can make a few modifications. So how do I determine what will be the next auto-generated number for my...

I retrieve a table with only 2 columns. One is a auto-generated primary key column and the 2nd is a string. When I add a new row to the dataset to be updated back to the database. What should I do with the 1st column ? (Below I have a "1" in place for now). Also, Does the datase.AcceptChanges(); updates the changes to the database? Which command do I use to update the changes in dataset back to the Access database table? Thanks, Alpha...

Before I started to create table, etc to track unique form field record number assigments I thought I'd check to see if there is now a better way to do this in .NET. I have a parent form (table) and children form (table). Relationship equals one to many. I'd like to auto number the fields accordingly and traditionaly I assign a unique number based on a table value that I retrieve + 1. i.e. Parent record field value = 1 Children record...

I have 2 virtually identical tables and wish to move data between them. Basically one table is called "live_table" and the other is named "suspended_table" and the only difference is that the primary key in the "suspended_table" is an auto incremented integer where as "live_table" primary key is just a standard integer. Here's the life-cycle: 1. Record gets entered into "suspended_table" 2. Record checked and then inserted into...

Is it true that if I split my access database in backend and frontend and I implement custom auto increment for the ID fields, that my database is ready to be used in a multi-user environment? I found a zillion messages about auto increment and read some of them but it's confusing. Can someone point me to a simple custom auto increment example that I can download? Thank you, john

Hello scripters - OS: Mac OSX Language: PHP w/ MySQL database I've created an insert page where a user inputs his info, which then goes to four different tables in a MySQL database. The tables are all linked with the field 'member_id', which is an auto-increment field in the parent table ('members'). I've been able to input multiple records into the other three tables 'specialty_groups', 'committee_interest' and 'committee_member'...

Hello fellow authoring.stylesheets colleagues, Can someone please explain why the bottom margin of the last inflow block-level child in an overflowed parent should not have its margin reachable. I read and re-read carefully the CSS 2.1 spec and I just can not see why. Related webpages: http://www.gtalbot.org/BrowserBugsSection/MSIE8Bugs/MarginBottomChildNotRendered.html

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
