Hi
I'm using mysql-server 4.0.13-3 on Debian.
I wish to be able to connect to that server using a mysql frontend from my
other computer, which is a Win32 box. However, when I try "telnet
192.168.1.40 3306" on the win32 box, or "telnet localhost 3306" on the host
box, I get connection refused.
Can someone give me, or point me to a step-by-step explaination on how this
is achieved?
Thanks

On the Debian, go to admin >mysql dbname
Enter "Grant" command specifying the Win32 box. Eg.
mysql> grant read on *.* to winuser@winipad dress identified by winpw
where
winuser is just a username
winipaddress is the IP Address of the windows machine
winpw is some password.
then on the Win32 box connect using that username and password eg.
say the user is remuser and password=pwpwpw and the Debian box is ip=1.2.3.4
and the database name is somedata.
then on windows
mysql -u remuser -p pwpwpw so******@1.2.3. 4
If using ODBC on the windows box, still use that ip, dbname, dbuser and
dppassword
Careful on the Grant command, to specify enough to restrict access.
For example "Grant all on *.* to fred identified by fredpw opens up connects
to (All IPs everywhere)

I have Enterprise Manager on my local machine. For the last twelve
months it has been connecting without problem to my online SQL Server
database provided by my ISP.
Three weeks ago the ISP applied some sort of extra security
arrangements to their SQL Server to allow access only through port
1433. they have told me to configure an alias using Network Client and
to register this alias in the usual way using my Enterprise Manager.

Hi Folks,
We have a DB2 database on a WAN at work. I want to access the database from
some Visual Basic for Applications code that I have written at work.
The database itself is not directly accessable and as it was described to me
is "buffered"
from the users by a second computer which passes on requests for data.
I assume that this intermediary computer would be whats called a SQL server?

I'm using VS 2005 connecting to a SQL 2000 DB on another server. The SQL is
also running IIS 6 with ASP.NET 2.0
When I test the aspx on my computer, it has no problem getting the

aspnet_regsql.exe against my DB. I did and I now see the additional ASP
tables in my DB. I then went into the ASP.NET configuration and went to

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
