I have a simple .NET application with two or three listViews which are filled with icons and when the user click on the proper item, they display the related images. I use "image = null ; " for all images that have been used and are going to be closed. This is how ever no way to reduce the memory consumption. I have noticed , using the task manager, that garbage collector doesn't actually do any collections unless the computer becomes low...

Greetings. For the most part, my reporting solutions have been ad-hoc (usually html for web apps) to the current project. I'm currently trying to figure out what would be a good reporting solution for primarily asp.net apps, but also my winform apps. I know .net comes with Crystal Reports ... My past experiences with Crystal Reports isn't all that great. I'm also not to fired up about the crystal report viewer that web clients will...

Hi, We have a .NET site that we use to manage customer relationship, tracking things such as customer profile, communication history etc. The information is stored in SQL server. Now we would like to add a reporting module that would generate (on demand) report for each customer. The report will be in PDF format, stored in our web server for download. We need to have control over the layout of the report, in terms of things such as...

Recently I moved from Crystal reports to the Reporting Services module. In Crystal, I was able to use the TOP N function to report only the top 15 customers in a particular query, and aggregate the rest of the customers into an "All Others" category. With reporting services, I've created teh same top 15 using TOP N in the filter tab in reporting services - however, I'm unable to find an easy way to aggregate the rest into the "All...

Posted to the Optik list, but it seems defunct. Optik is now Python's optparse. I wonder how do you implement optional arguments to Optik. I.e., you can have an option -P -- the filename is optional, with a default "data, pikl". It works as follows:

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
