String Comparison Implementation

Hi,
I would be greately thankful if somebody can give me some information
about how string comparison is implemented in mysql. (Both in Physical
and Application layer) How queries on string (for example '>' or like
or strcmp) are implemented. Any idea where can I find the open source
for string comparison/ ordering/ implementation? Does it use the sme
structre as strcmp in c?
Thanks a lot,
Ramin

Introduction ------------ The need to find files that "resembled" in the name has pushed me to write an utility that unlike the other it was not based on the content of the files but on its name. Initially I start adding this functionality to one "C" program for Unix called "fdupes" witch give me good performance and good precision. The algorithm that I have chosen for the comparison between string was "Levenshtein Distance". For...

Hi all. Maybe this question has been asked many times before, but I was not able to find any pointer. I apologize in advance, for it refers to a particular standard library implementation (GNU C++ version 3.x), but perhaps it's more general than that. The following program (to be compiled with g++ 3.x, 2.9x is not enough) #include <iostream> #include <string>

Now I am confused. I am doing a "less" comparison in my program between strings, to see which strings in some range precede others. This is my approach: class SortedByName { public: bool operator() (const boost::filesystem::path& lhs, const boost::filesystem::path& rhs) {

Consider: printf("%d", "ABC" == "ABC"); The ANSI standard says that string comparsion using a comparison operator (==) is not allowed. It recommends the use of the strcmp() in <string.h>. The Borland compiled programs print "0" on this; while the GCC and MS VC++ compiled programs print "1".

Is it correct and safe to compare a string object with "", a pair of quotation marks quoted empty string?If the string object: s = ""; does s contain a single '\'? Is it better to use std::string::size or std::string::empty to deal with this condition? Thank you. string s = ""; if (s == ""); if (s.size == 0); if (s.empty());

Is there any comparison data on perfomance difference between std::string and c style string? Or maybe if there are source code which could be used to measuer on different compiler/platform, in a systematic way?
