When installing the rpms (or the tar file) onto Red Hat Enteprise
Linux AS Beta 1 (Taroon), we get the follwing error:
Installing all prepared tables
/usr/bin/mysql_install_db: line 1: 7690 Segmentation fault
/usr/sbin/mysqld --bootstrap --skip-grant-tables --basedir=/
--datadir=/var/lib/mysql --skip-innodb --skip-bdb
Installation of grant tables failed
The log file simply shows a start and a stop of the server.

Hello,
I wanted to find out what MySQL administrators think about MySQL
installation on RedHat and other Linux distributions with the use of
RPM. RedHat reallocates all MySQL files into different places in the
file system. Is it easier to learn MySQL administration on a non-RPM
MySQL installation? Are the standards that are used in books,
articles and guides more relevant to non-RPM installations? I get a
sense that it's better to...

Well.... just wanted to know if the people at the MySQL.org site ever
look at the posts in this group. If they do, they can possibly us a
little constructive criticism from a slightly irritated customer.
Seems to me that if someone installs Redhat 9 with MySQL from the
original CD source which is version 3.23.54a and then follows the
instructions at the MySQL website on upgrading to a newer
version....(4.0.22) then, it should work. I...

To make a long story short, let me say I had MySQL working on Windows 98
and everything was fine. Well, I took the big leap and removed all
traces of Windows and Microsoft from the computer. (hooray!) Once I had
Linux running OK, I downloaded and installed MySQL using an RPM package.
I guess the server is running (it says it is every time the computer
starts and it stops successfully every time the computer shuts down)
however, I cannot...

Hi everyone,
I've got a question about how to size the server hardware for a MySQL
system that I've got to buy and build. We're going to be putting a
database on MySQL that will contain upwards of 20 million rows of data.
This data will be used by Java applications running under Tomcat to
provide web pages, Java data objects and probably most importantly SOAP
web services. The total number of concurrent users of this data is not
know,...

Hello,
I'v installed mysql 5.0
(MySQL-server-standard-5.0.27-0.rhel4.i386.rpm) on RedHat AS4.
When I start mysql through command line (i.e. /usr/bin/mysqld_safe
--datadir=/var/lib/mysql --pid-file=/tmp/mysql.pid & ), everything is
ok. But when I use "service mysql start" command launch it, mysql just
quit silently.
The log file report is:

Hello Newsgroup,
I have redhat 3.0 Enterprise, and mysql (3.58.xxx more or less)
installed from a redhat rpm,
and php 4.3.9 (installed from an rpm) - I can access data from my mysql
db using php and the "pear" Db .php. I recently upgraded my Apache to
2.2 and installed (more or less) PHP 5.2 as well - neither of these
installs were from a Redhat rpm, I downloaded the tarballs, extracted,
configed, make, etc.
Apache seems to work fine...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
