Running mtSQL on a RAM disk

Folks - some years ago a thread was started (I believe) by a gentleman
named Creigh Shank regarding his use of a RAMdisk mySQL db. I am
trying to set up the same thing but have been stopped right from the
get go as I can not get a larger than 2G RAM disk going (using a 64 bit
Ubuntu installation).

I am hoping someone who has gone through the basic set up might get me
squared away to start. An offline conversation would be fine and
perhaps save the rest of y'all wading through said basics.

Any help at this point would be very much appreciated.

Thank you

Claude

Stephen, thank you for the pointer to heap (memory) tables. I have
checked them out. I was hoping thespeed increase of using RAM would be
a lot better than just 30%
(http://www.databasejournal.com/featu...e.php/3077531).

Are there any RAM-based approaches that will speed things up?

Thanks

Claude

Hi, I'm trying to create a program similar to that of Google's desktop that will crawl through the hard drive and index files. I have written the program and as of now I just put the thread to sleep for 1 second after indexing a couple of files. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a way that I could make so that the program will run at full speed only runs after the computer has been idle for a while. I've looked at the "nice" command...

Fellas!! This is a very complicated one and it took me a few days to figure out exactly what's going on, but here's the final story: I have a production environment running on .NET with a SQL Server (2000, SP3). The SQL Server is on a dedicated Proliant computer with 2GB RAM (the actual SQLServer.exe process has dynamic memory assignment and can reach up to 1.6GB RAM). Nothing else is running on that specific computer.

I've got a server (SQL 2K, Win2K) where the backups have started running long. The database is a bit largish -- 150GB or so. Up until last month, the backups were taking on the order of 4 to 5 hours -- depending on the level of activity on the server. I'm using a T-SQL script in the SQLAgent to run the backups. Native SQL backup to an AIT tape drive.

Hi, let's see an application is sitting on a server elsewhere, and it is accessed via http:// or by just the location specified by \\servername. So on first request the app is downloaded, on subsequent requests, there is a check to see if the app was modified since the last time. Now, I tried stopping IIS after running the app initially, so that the http:// link no longer worked. I was hoping, that since the http:// was not available,...

Hi there! I spent the last week trying to fix this problem - I am always getting an error when trying to run an application (WinForms or PPC) out of Visual Studio IDE: 'Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debugging.' 'The debugger is not properly installed. Run setup to install or repair the debugger.'

Hello dear People! For the very first time I have attempted to have BOTH Access 2000 AND Access 2002 installed on the same computer. I started with Access 2002 (XP). After I was sure the A2002 was running well, I installed Access 2000 from my original Office 2K Pro Microsoft disks with the only difference being that I told it to install on a different hard disk (D instead of C). It now appears that the A2k version is the DEFAULT...

Maybe is this a old and well known question, but can't my C# .NET application run from a network share? Running it from a local disk is OK but not from my F:\ disk (nettwork disk).

Hi. Yet another question. We're running a new asp.net app off a production network server. The PC is a PentiumII/III with 128MB of RAM. When running the app, the memory uses read at about 190MB. Just looking for some opinions. The app is not that complicated. Runs on our internet. Some SQL db used and HTML docs are rendered using XmlTransform class.

Hi, I need a script to keep running in the background after it's loaded some data. It will make this data available to the main program in the form of a dictionary, but I don't want to reload the calculated data every time the user needs it via the main program. I won't be working with an UI, hope that can be made easily in Python somehow.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
