I'm looking for beginners guide to the mysql monitor

MLH
I am brand new both to linux and to mysql.

When I type mysql on my linux box, the mysql monitor
appears. There, I know how to type help and exit. that's
all I know. I need a book or online source that will teach
me to use the mysql monitor. Recommendations ?

The Mysql Reference Manual is an excellent document. It's not written
in hard to understand geek-speak like man pages, but everyday english.
It is also very thorough. OTOH, it is very detailed and can wear ya'
down with all the information contained within. But, it's what I fall
back on when I can't find the answers anywhere else. This manual
should be included in the doc section of the installed package.
Online is:

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/manual-info.html

A much briefer book I picked up is Apache, Mysql, PHP: Weekend Crash
Course by Steve Schafer. It's hits only the necessay high points to get one up
and running without all the detail. Between the two, I'm moving right
along. Oh, a minor disclaimer .... "Weekend" (author claims 15hrs) may be
within the realm of possibility for bright young whippersnappers , but
this old geezer is WAY! off schedule. ...lol.... But, I still
recommend it.

That's good! When I worked in tech support, a person called our help
line _twice_ in one day asking how to exit the database monitor tool. :-)

The reference docs for the mysql monitor are at:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/mysql.html

And also there's the MySQL tutorial, which I mentioned in another
posting. I'll include the link again for posterity:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/tutorial.html

Bill K.

I have a dedicated server running 'FreeBSD 4.9 STABLE' at a hosting site. They have done some default installations, presumably from the CVS ports package ??. Herein lies the problem, "I do not know" what they have done! At first it was apparent that MySQL was installed mysql_install_db ; GRANT TABLES etc. ??? so I ran "mysql_install_db --force"

I installed mySQL and have it running.... but I think I made a mistake somewhere along the line...... I believe I did follow the instructions that were provided with the distribution at: http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/ The database is up. It seems that a test database instance has been created (named "test"). I can see it. Hello all, I come to you to getting help for managing multi threading and database connection. My project use Xml-Rpc to receive messages, so each call come from a different thread. Incoming calls are executing SQL on a MysqlConnection. MysqlConnection does not like when concurents calls appends. For a fast and dirty solution, I've put a Monitor() at messages arrived.

Just like the subject says, I'm interested in taking up PHP and would like to know if anyone knows of any books that are a must have. I know there are tons of books out there on every language, but I'm sure some are much better than others. I'm mainly looking for a beginners book that also had advanced content too, but if that doesn't exist, then just an excellent beginners book would be fine too. Thanks in advance for any information you...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
