Web based MySQL Question?

Hi All,

Can someone point me in the right direction?

I have a web site which uses a MySQL database to store items for sale,
client information and credit card info etc (or will be soon). I'm
currently looking at building a back-end website to control all this
information, what I was wondering is their a recognised way of connecting to
a web based MySQL database using VB6 and if so how securely can that
connection be made, at the moment I'm using an SSL connection, but this of
course is still not that secure, anyone finding the address will then need
to work out the username and password, but potentially will be able to gain
access, if I could use VB then they would need to get hold of the exe in
order to gain access, and my knowledge of VB6 is higher that my knowledge of
PHP.

Any help much appreciated

Regards

Probably ODBC is your best choice. See the MyODBC product on dev.mysql.com.

That's a tricky subject. Tips you get from newsgroup users should not
be mistaken for a thorough security plan. It's kind of like trusting
legal advice from people on the net. If you need very strong security,
you should consult an expert.

Here are a couple of articles to get you started:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/mysql-connectors.html
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/windows-and-ssh.html

This is a mysql/php question (but a little more on the mysql side.) The two are so closely related these days, I thought it would be ok to ask here. I installed on my Suse Linux system mysql 4.0 using an rpm. I also installed all of the appropriate PHP 4.3 and Apache 2.0 rpms. I set my socket path in my.cnf to /tmp/mysql.sock. I then, just to be safe and thorough, copied this my.cnf to ~/.my.cnf and to the /var/lib/mysql directory...

I am trying to develop a web based database application to manage a Scout group. I need to control the level of access different visitors to the site are allowed to different parts of the database. I need to provide public information, including some contact details from the database, to unauthenticated (non-member) users and to provide a scale of access to more information for authenticated members. The access model would be similar...

Hi everyone, still pretty new to MySQL. I was wondering if there is a way to automatically filter records based on a mysql userlogin name?? I have serveral databases that I want to combine in order to manage the databases more efficiently. - I'm currently using MySQL 4.1.12 and I'm currently testing 5.0.14 - I have a databases for each user account. - Each database has the same schema and entity relation model.

Hi Folks, I have been given a CD with approx 130 .xls files (bean-counters!) that I would like to import and merge to ONE table (tblTradeshow). The XL files are *similarly*, but not identically structured, and the first row does NOT contain field names. Some (actually most) of the column names *are* the same in all of the spreadsheets.

Hi, I am working on a genealogy form. The only table (so far) lists everybody in the family, one record per person. Each record has an autonum ID. The parent form (frmMainForm) displays the data in each record, which includes the ID of the father and the mother (who also have records in the table). One record per form. I have a Tab Control in the form, and in one of the tabs I have a subform (sfmSiblings) in which I wish to list...

Hello All, I am interested in setting up a modest invoicing system for some consulting I am doing. I like the idea of managing this on the web and creating invoices and printing them from a browser. However, I'm not really sure where to start. I've played with some CMS applications, but they seem more for blogging (mamba, wordpress, etc.). Ideally, I would like to interface with mySQL (or whatever the favorite web-flavor database app is...

Hi... I am a newbie VB.NET developer and i am looking at working with ADO.NET rather than ADO. In one of our native VB application with ADO, we used to create 1 connection object and that would help us to connect to MS-SQL and MySQL alternatively based on the database type and connection string i provide. So, one connection object was good enough to connect to any of these 2 type of databases. The sample connection string we use to...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
