myisamchk running slow

I have a ~ 38 GB table (MyISAM) and am using myisamchk -r to recover
it. Its been running for several days now (Win2k).

When I go to check it, it seems to have slowed down (sometimes hangs
without any CPU usage) and if I press the Enter key several times and
just fiddle around on the screen (open task manager, etc.) it seems
to "wake-up" myisamchk and it begins to check about 1000 recs every 1
to 2 seconds and happily creeps along.

I know I should have used explitict buffer sizes as I have plenty of
memory; but the performance of myisamchk doesn't seem to make sense.
The volume is raided and the raid manager shows the disks to be
healthy.

Unfortunately the temporary file is on the same volume, but I still
would expect a rather linear performance footprint of myisamchk.

mysqld is stopped.
There's 512MB ram.
connecting through remote desktop
The 4 drives are EIDE drives for a total of 207.88 GB space.

I have a syslog trapper running and storing data in an Access
database. But this is not CPU intensive either.

Again, the real concern is the performance footpring of myisamchk. It
shouldn't be so volatile.

Any ideas, similar experiences?

TIA

Hello, I recently managed to corrupt a table pretty badly. I read the sections in the documentation about recovering after a crash. None of the methods worked. All give output similar to the following: % bin/myisamchk -t ~/tmp -f -o BROKE/EventsBROKE - recovering (with keycache) MyISAM-table 'BROKE/EventsBROKE.MYI' Data records: 101333504 bin/myisamchk: error: 127 for record at pos 0 MyISAM-table 'BROKE/EventsBROKE' is not fixed because...

Would anything happen to the database if I ran "myisamchk --silent = /usr/data/mysql/*/*.MYI" when I havent run "FLUSH TABLES" first? As it states in the documentation: If mysqld is running, you must force a sync/close of all tables with = FLUSH TABLES and ensure that no one is using the tables while you are = running myisamchk. In MySQL Version 3.23 the easiest way to avoid this = problem is to use CHECK TABLE instead of myisamchk to...

I'm about to compress a number of tables using myisampack utility. The admin guide recommends running the following command after doing so: myisamchk -rq --sort-index --analyze tbl_name.MYI I understand what this does, but I don't want to deal with locking the tables before running myisamchk (stopping the server is not an option). So, is there a equivalent syntax for mysqlcheck that will do virtually the same thing as this command? The...

Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone has tried a scenario that I'm thinking of. At my job we've got a web based product provided by Apache running PHP that accesses MySQL. This web application is hosted by multiple servers behind a load balancer because of the user load on the system. However, we've still had times when the servers got over run and Apache maxes out on the number of httpd processes (257) and falls behind to the point of...

Hi, I'm writing here because this issue is becoming more annoying with each day it passes. So I have a form, a dataset with a few table adapters (3 to be precise) and a datagridview. The datagridview has a lot of columns as checkboxes (30 columns are checkboxes per row). The problem is in the form drawing and painting, when first shown the form paints itself very slow and im running this on a relatively powerful computer (Pentium 2.4GHz with...

My computer is very slow when some Windows applications are running. I defragmented and fixed bad sectors of the C: drive, I deleted open and running applications through regedit, I removed all the unnecessary programs, cookies, temp files, scanned and fix antivirus. It is slow only with Windows applications, especially with Microsoft Word and Excel. Other applications and Internet browsers run with a reasonable speed. Do you know anything...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
