Hi guys I have been poking around before with a lot of technical questions but now I wish to seek your help in a personal related situation.....

I need your help, give me some advice in the field of freelancing, what do u all hve to say abt it. Is it profitable, can i get good projects online to the extend of covering a full time job.

I have a nice job at the moment but wish to get things working in the freelancing side. Actually the thing is I am gonna hve a baby soon and i wish soo badly to click in freelancing so that I can look after my baby and work at the same time. As you can imagine like anyone else in this world i hve worked hard to achieve my career and dont want to harm it but at the same time dont wanna neglect my baby.

So guys have a look at my online website URL REMOVED, let me know what do you think about my chances and give me some effective ideas to get good online projects.

Regards,

I would think pretty good about this decision. There are some freelancers at this site, but just like any business where you work for yourself its all about you and how much YOU put into it. It's a lot of work and throw a baby into the mix is going to make it a lot harder for you to be successful on your own.

Just my thoughts, I would PM a mod and ask them to move this to the Cafe. You will get better responses in there and it will open your question up to more people.

Are you asking if I feel you have the qualifications to make a good career out of freelancing?

I have no idea.

Here are a few things you will find out, though if you do morew than ask other people and actually find out for yourself.

- People who hire freelancers expect a lot for less money. You can make more money, steadily by working for a firm.
- Serious companies seldom hire freelancers, as they have a staff that does development. So you are required to bridge the gap. Usually at a cost to you in the form of money or time.
- You are responsible for garanteeing that you get paid for what you do. And you have very little defense against people over seas ripping you off.
- There are hundreds of people with money that flat out want you to rip off other web sites, programmers, and companies. They will not get hit with copyright infringment, or patent violations, you will.
- You will spend 10 to 40 hours a week trying to get enough jobs to keep you working 10 to 40 hours a week. So why not work for a firm that only requires 40, garantees 40, etc. They usually have more marketing resources than you will, and can keep the jobs coming in.
- Several people want the finished product, before you get a dime, but they also want all the rights to the software you've written without investing a single cent. The law says that if they tell you what to do, and "What tools to use" then you are an employee.

But look into it yourself.
