Run UNIX Without Installation

168 New Member
I have WINDOWS VISTA and would like to learn unix commands and scripts.
Is there any option to run Unix on my system, from the CD drive (I mean, without installing)?

Sure, that's possible. Do you want to run it within Windows or boot the system into UNIX from CD?

You have a few options, use vmware to create a virtual machine in which you can work, cygwin (install unix like environment within your windows) or use a LiveCD (every distro has one)

My personal favor: a virtual machine, this will allow you to save data and actually work with the system without having to redo everything all the time.

Don't forget that you can also install things like Ubuntu onto a memory stick and boot from that. That way, you can save things.

I have XUbuntu installed on a 2 gig pen drive and it works great.

Is there any way to add an embedded resource to a project without copying it to the project's directory? I have shared resources and don't want each project using the images, xml files, etc. to need to be updated with the current copy before being built. I also don't want projects being built with the old copy. Thanks! Bill
