Hi.. I bought this model of laptop and had a difficulty installing windows XP onto it which has a SATA type of hard disk. The installer couldn't find the presence of the SATA. After finding some help from net, I was able to load some drivers to run in normally as usual windows installation.
Now I want to install fedora-core or some other linux/unix OS in the same laptop, but the installer I have is also unable to find the SATA disk.
Best Regards,
coax

Hi coaxfiber!
Try booting the laptop with a live CD like Knoppix or an Ubuntu CD and check, if the drive is found. I had a problem with SATA under Linux, but the newest Version of Knoppix (5.1.1) found it without problems and on my laptop, which has a SATA drive, I'm running Ubuntu and the drive was recognized out of the box.
If you can get it working with one of those, you should be able to get Fedora working somehow. Maybe check http://fedoraproject.org/?

Sir,
Ok.. I should see if my SATA drive will be detected. I have tried to run Knoppiix before but never checked it. I got this version of Knoppix when I bought the book "Linux Bible 2005".

Well, as that's probably a version from 2005, it might only work with a newer Version. I found, that the SATA drive on my desktop PC wasn't recognized automatically by Knoppix 5.0.1 but it is recognized by Knoppix 5.1.1. Check it with your version and if it doesn't work, try the newest Version.

Hi
I explain my title: i'm actually developping an application for privilege-limited users.
They all have a laptop, and are not local administrators of the machine
I 'm developping a program that allows them to create profiles with IP, Proxy, Network Drives and printers
For drives and printers, they can supply a username/password so they can connect to file servers/printers without having to change the local user... (or do a RunAs, but...

I'm a developer using XP Pro for developing business apps with Visual

My current workstation is a few years old and uses a single IDE drive. I'm
looking to build a new workstation. I plan to NOT install Vista and continue

My question:
What would you recommend for the hard drive(s) on my new workstation? I ask

Hello all,
I'm having a "challenge" finding solution for sata driver or any solution without recompiling the kernel (Red Hat Ent. Linux 4 Upd. 3)
The machine is a remote one (and that is the biggest problem), some Z intellistation as I recall (I'll try to ask somebody for the exact model), which has SATA drives which work in "compatibility" mode, as hdX, not sdX - I think it's ICH7 controller, can't check it now (if needed, I'll check it...

I have a Compaq ML530 G1 with a 5300 array controller with mirrored drives that have Server 2003 installed on them. I have recently installed a PCI SATA controller with a new SATA HDD connected, but now the system attempts to boot off the SATA drive as opposed to the mirrored SCSI HDDs.
I have run the SCU to set the 5300 array controller as the boot device, but the system will continue to look at the SATA HDD. Any thoughts?

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
