In the past I've used the Suse Linux brand, but I haven't dealt with Linux in about 4 years and lost track of what is what in the Linux world lately. I was wondering which brand of Linux will offer me the best features for being able to run a linux machine like I would my windows machine that way I can use Linux more.

Currently I'm in college for Computer Engineering/Computer Science and I want to do most of my programming and projects on the computer. At the same time I want to be able to use my projects on Windows Machine. I know they are different machines, but I know I can make a windows backing (platform) to run my windows application on linux.

I like Linux because of how I can control security and make programs I want.

If you are looking for security i would never suggest ubuntu. any body can get root access in ubuntu once they logon to recovery mode. And by default you would never get root account. Anything is possible using Sudo.
Including root access to non priviledged users

OK, I tried a Google search on this Usenet group but couldn't find a solution, so I'm posting my question here (if there's a better archive than the one in Google, please let me know). Does anybody know how to detect the operating system under which the current Python program is running, especially whether it's Windows or Unix? I have a program that needs to search for files in "c:\test" if it's running under Windows, and...

Hello. I recently came across a free operating system called Unununium (or something like that) and it was developed in Python and Assembly. Now, I have been looking for a way to make an operating system for a long long time and the only possibilities I could find were C++ and assembly. I don't mind assembly so much if I don't have to use it very often. But C++ is so complicated and errors are pretty much impossible to find in the code...

I have read in a few books that the .NET framework can work on different platforms also know as cross platforming, but I can't find anything on a Microsoft website confirming this. It seems if this were true, I wouldn't have to research this very hard. You'd think Microsoft would advertise this.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
