You can prevent your site from adding to the history queue, but you can't remove anything that is already there with javascript. In any browser.

If you want to prevent caching, there are better means rather than trying to remove the history. You can use server-side settings (including your server software) as well as meta tags (though they're not completely reliable). Another option is to add something to the url to force the browser to retrieve the page from the server.

When I say 'last', I mean (eg.) the 100th item in a 100-item history list, *not* the immediately previous one! The problem is, the history.go() method only allows *relative* movement through the history list. I need to go directly to the end -- an *absolute* movement -- and there doesn't appear to be any way of finding out the number of 'steps' that would require. Ideally, what I would use would be something of the form:

Hi all I have a history.back() problem with FF(2). IE works as expected, while FF does not. The multi frame website setup as a whole with a lot of frame content switching works flawlessly in both browsers. In one situation and frame I have a long scrollable list of cars offered for sale. Some list lines are linked to a separate page with images, to be loaded into the same frame as the listing. On closing this image page with <a...

Hi, My web page has an iframe with a list of items from a database. These items are html links and when clicked they execute a server side script to update the database and reload the iframe with the updated links. The list is sometimes long and I would like the user to return to the same iframe anchor point as they were before. I use the following code in the database update script (which also reloads the iframe) which works fine with...

I need people to test a new app that I have created: 'History!'. History! is a personal web history manager. It allows you to save, bookmark and tag the page that you are currently reading and gives you the ability to locate the page at later stage. Requirements: Firefox (with JS enabled), Web Server running MySQL and PHP. A Firefox toolbar is created during installation and that is when the fun starts. You can view a demo here:...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
