This may seem like such a simple question, I should be embarrassed to ask
it. The FAQ says an object is "A region of storage with associated
semantics." OK, what exactly is meant by "associated semantics"? What, if
any, associated semantics are shared by all objects? That part seems to go
beyond the FAQ.
Does anybody know of a resource that discusses (focuses on) this topic?

Hi folks,
Just wondered if, for the sake of clarity, it is permissible to post
small image files of an error box along with a text message about a
problem with Access?

Hi,
I am trying to save and read an image from MS Access DB based on the
following article:
http://www.vbdotnetheaven.com/Code/Sept2003/2175.asp
Right now, I saved images without any errors. After reading the ole object
from db, I saved it to C: as file1.bmp and displayed on the web. But it can
not be displayed. After I manually sent the file to wordpad, it shows

Using vb.net I need to download image files to the client browser where they
can save to disk. Below is some sample code I'm using. when I run this the
File Download window in the browser says:
File name: ViewAttachment
File type:
From localhost
1) "ViewAttachment" is the name of the aspx page and not the image file.
2) Its not picking up the file type of jpg. For ContentType I used

I need to get the size on an image client side before the client uploads it,
and if its too large, I need to alert the client rather than doing a
postback. The code below successfully writes the file size to the
text-input element on the second click (attempt), but writes -1 on the first
click. It must return the file size on the first click to be useable. Can
anyone explain why it returns -1 on the first click and then the actual file...

I was playing around with canvas support in recent Safari, Mozilla and
Opera (only version 9 preview) but run into issues with Safari related
to the very old DOM Level 0 Image object for preloading images.
When doing e.g.
var img = new Image();
img.onload = function (evt) {
alert(this);
};
img.src = 'whatever.gif';

I can't get the below code to work, no matter how many times I change
it. I do have the Image file, Image1, created (in another method),
and using "hard coding" I can save it (it's a filled rectangle) on my
hard drive, but I cannot use the Dialog box to select a user defined
name. I keep getting the error "Wrong Parameter Selected" no matter
what name I pick. Also I got rid of the 'filters' for extensions and
it still doesn't work. ...

Beware newbies: I spent a day before I figured this out: copying a
bitmap (image) file to file is not quite like copying a text file--you
have to do some tricks (see below), like using a "Graphics" object to
wrap around the image (!). It's not so simple as shown in most
examples (where they have a simple image file and hard copy it into a
harddrive along the lines of : image.Save(@"C:\\temp\\myimage.pgn");
That will work, but it's a...

You can check the Image.complete property; example:
img = new Image(100,100);
interval = setInterval('checkcomplete()', 100);
img.src = 'someimg';
function checkcomplete() {
if (window.complete) {

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
