There are two general opinions of generalised javascript libraries
expressed by regular contributors to this group; the opinion that they
are a bad idea (inevitably held by individuals who do/will not use
them), and the opinion that they are a good idea. The second opinion is
mostly represented on this group by individuals who have written
generalised script libraries, and so by individuals who do not have a
reason for using other people's libraries.

Apart from the authors of particular generalised javascript libraries,
their appeal is to individuals who have little knowledge of javascript,
and little interest in learning it. So if the author of this library is
not willing to provide adequate documentation you are unlikely to find
anyone else in a position to say much about it.

OK ! Thanks Richard - perhaps a little more learning on my part is the
best way forward!

I have used Prototype.js. As you said you have to invest some time
in learning it. But there is help from a guy who has posted a partial
documentation for this library. Access it here
http://www.sergiopereira.com/articles/prototype.js.html.

hope it helps.

Peroli,

Thanks for above. I have exchanged several emails with Sergio who has
been very helpful but I think he is very busy just at the moment.

Thanks for reminding me of his pages I will have another look at them!

hi, in section 10.1.8 (Arguments Object) it is stated that the "internal ] property of the arguments object is the orginal Object prototype object, the one that is the *initial* value of Object.prototype". Furthermore the Object.prototype property has attributes . My question now: what does the "initial" refer to? To the untouched prototype-object, or to the current Object.prototype? In the latter case: why would the write "initial", if...

Hi all, What I am trying to achieve is an 'inherits' method similar to Douglas Crockford's (http://www.crockford.com/javascript/inheritance.html) but that can enable access to the superclass' priviledged methods also. Do you know if this is possible ? In the following example, I create an ObjectA (variable a), an ObjectB which inherits ObjectA (variable b) and an ObjectC which inherits ObjectA (variable c1). The 'toString ()' method...

Hey people, I read a good thread on here regarding the reason why we use function prototypes, and it answered most of my questions, but I wanted to double check on a couple of things, as I am writing something up on functions, and I don't like writing about things I am not sure about. Ok, then, here we go: I initially thought that one would only really need to use a function

I was reading the article over 24 Ways (http://24ways.org/advent/easy-ajax-with-prototype) and saw this example of using Prototype: function greet(){ var url = 'greeting.php'; var pars = 'greeting-name='+escape($F('greeting-name')); var target = 'greeting'; var myAjax = new Ajax.Updater(target, url, {method: 'get', parameters: pars});

I'm learning about objects and am trying to figure out how basic inheritance works. I've got into the habit of explicitly setting the prototype object with an object literal as it seems to make the creation of a class easier to read/understand. Anyway it seems to break the inheritance chain in the following code and I don't know why. window.onload = function() {

Hi all, I'm brand new to this newsgroup. I've been reading the FAQ's and some other documentation submitted by regulars of the group (such as "Javascript Best Practices" at http://www.javascripttoolbox.com/bestpractices/#prototype) and am discovering that there is general distaste for prototype.js. In my first post to this group I recommended a fix that happened to use some functions from the prototype.js library. I may now be...

Hi all - I'm preparing to dive in to more complex application development using javascript, and among other things, I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around an issues regarding "inheritance" using the prototype property. I realize there are no classes in JS, that code therefore lives in objects instead of class definitions, and that "inheritance" must be achieved prototypically and not classically. That said, on with the code. Say I...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
