IE and slow rollover issue

Hi all,

I've done some research on this issue and am looking to you for
further information on why IE still does a server look-up of a
rollover image, even if the image has been preloaded and/or looked-up.

I've tended to think that it is just a bug with IE but then i found a
site that has rollovers that do not get looked up with IE. I thought
that maybe they are using some special js script that fixed it. But
no, it uses the same canned js rollover scripts provided by Macromedia
Fireworks/Dreamweaver. This really has me stumped now...

For example here is a site i'm working on right now that has rollovers
that access the server everytime you hover over the side navigation
buttons...
http://www.redladderinc.com/rli/index.cfm
Now here's a site that uses the exact same scripts as the above site,
but in my IE 6 browser, the side nav buttons do not access the server
on the rollover...
http://www.eastbaycoaches.org

Is this then a HTTP header issue? If so, what exact headers cause one
to work correctly and not the other? Any insight into this mystery
would be greatly appreciated...

FWIW, i personally use the new Firefox and love it! Rollovers work
like they should in this browser. Just need to get a handel on the IE
stuff since most people use it.

Thanks...

Your question is answered in the FAQ.

Rollovers work correctly in both, they just have different caching
defaults.

Has anyone else had this issue? Basically, the preload of images for a rollover effect for the navigation is really really slow when using IE 6.0 but when i view the site using Netscape, it's fast like it should be(no lag!) My problem is that since 96% of users use IE, i need to figure a way to fix this. Below is the javascript currently being used. The arguments are passed in before the script is called. I've got several sites that I used DreamWeaver MX to add RollOver buttons to the pages, it also adds some javascript that pre-loads the images and does the mouse_over and such. In FireFox 1.0.1 when I load the page and it pre-loads the images the status bar shows DONE. When I mouse over any item, it changes the image properly, but the status (lower left of browser) shows "Read www.somesite.com", it may also show "Waiting for...

Hi, I am dealing with the sequence number rollover issue. I need to compare the incoming packet sequence number w/ the one in the table. There is good possibility that the incoming packet sequence number has rolledover. I am using Unsigned data type to store the sequence number. I read somewhere that I 've to do Signed arithmetic to deal with it. I would appreciate if you can help me out. (Pseudo code would be helpful)

Just curious why a VERY commonly used affect of rollover was NOT implemented in .NET 2.0 for web controls? Does anyone have a link to VB code that will show me how to build my own UserControl that will support a rollover? thanks, Rob.

Hello CSS and StyleSheet members, I have decided to move away from Dreamweaver javascript rollover buttons, in favor of a CSS type rollover button. (hope that is ok). I plan to use PHP to include the page with the rollover buttons as a php include in a div for navigation buttons (left side of web page). I have cobbled together some code complements of http://sophie-g.net/jobs/css/e_buttons.htm.

Two (almost) identical SQL Server databases (DB1 backed up and restored to DB2 yesterday). DB2.dbo.GetSchPaymentsTD took 1.5 seconds (!) to execute DB1.dbo.GetSchPaymentsTD took less than a millisecond with identical code and data. I'm guessing this is some sort of indexing issue and the code is below but I'm not sure it's relevant because . . . .. . . I dropped DB2.dbo.GetSchPaymentsTD and then recreated it (with identical code)...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
