Hi There
I am wanting to start learning Java but am not sure where to begin, i have found courses here and there but not sure if there worth while and was hoping a Senior Java programmer or someone that has been doing it for a while could please help me out?
Hi, check the last part of this
Article. You want to download the Java JDK as well
as the Java API documentation. The article provides download links for both. The
Java JDK (Java Development Kit) contains the Java Runtime Environment as well
as the tools you need to compile your Java source code files.
The Java Runtime Environment contains both the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) and
all of Sun's classes that form the 'standard library' containing a wealth of usefull
stuff (classes). All these classes are decribed in detail in the second download:
the API documentation (API == Application Program Interface). Most, if not all
people never read the API docs which is just foolish.
There's also a link to all of Sun's tutorials. Just download the JDK and the docs
and start reading the tutorials; best of luck. If you have any questions (not homework)
feel free to come back here and we'll discuss matters.
kind regards,
Jos
