A friend just changed servers with her web site. The new server uses PHP
4.3.2 as opposed to the old server that had one of the 4.0.x's (don't
remember exactly which one). Now I know all about the register globals
change but one of the pages is suddenly throwing me an error I can't
figure out. It is not on a form. It is a script to include a random
quote on a page once every 50 page loads. It worked fine on the old
server but is throwing...

Hi
I am using Listview and inherited listview control overriding WndProc
& PreProcessMessage in ListView.
I need this to customize listview to display only the page the user
scrolls to. Since i am populating listview with more than 200,000
items. It is too slow and tried virtual listview. But that doesnot
allow me to add images in the listview. So now trying to list only the
page user scrolls to.

Just looking for suggestion on how to do this in my Web application.
The goal is to keep track of what a user has and hasn't read and present him or
her with new material
I am currently doing this by aggregating new content from all databases into a
single indexed database and then saving a timestamp in the account database
(for the current user) that tells me when the user last read items in the
aggregated database.

Imagine a CD of say 20 songs
Each song is a table row
I need a way for the user to change the way the songs are listed by allowing
them to change the track numbers. What is the smartest way to do this? I
think it would be kind of trick to have a couple of <IMG> up and down arrows
per each song. The user would click on either the up or down arrow to move
the song accordingly. But I don't know how to go about that. Whatever

I have a new system Im building that stores entries of what people are
searching for on my sites.
I want to be able to keep records of how many times a keyword was
searched for daily, and from that I can calculate weekly and monthly.
At this point I have one entry per search phrase with the number of
hits the search phrase has gotten, and the last time it was updated.
As I start to take the program out of testing and move in more...

I thought it might be interesting to share experiences of tracking down a
subtle or mysterious bug. I myself haven't much experience with tracking
down bugs, but there's one in particular which comes to mind.
I was writing usable which dealt with strings. As per usual with my code, I
made it efficient to the extreme. One thing I did was replace, where
possible, any usages of "strlen" with something like:
struct PtrAndLen {
char *p;

A quick sanity check, and I think I am correct, but just to make
sure: if you have a bunch of objects that are very much like one
another you can uniquely track them simply by using an ArrayList or
Array, correct? An example: create the object, create an array, the
stuff the object into the array. Later on, assume the object is
mutable, the object changes, but you can find it, if you have enough
state information to uniquely identify...

I have a web app that is running a photo competition. Basically any
user should be able to vote on a photo with a rating between 1 and 5.
At the end of the competition the photo with the highest average
rating wins the competition.
To make things fair we would like to restrict a user from only voting
on any one photo only once. However to encourage voting we dont want
to have to force users to register/signup. So we thought perhaps...

Hi!
I need to be able to track memory usage in a medium-sized
application I'm developing. The only significant (memory-wise) non-
local objects are of two types -- std::vector<and of a custom class
simple_vector<that is a hand-rolled substitute for array<>. With the
latter I have code that tracks all allocations and destructions, so I
can account for all the memory.
The question is about std::vector<-- how can I track memory usage

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
