Is it possible to delete a file by copying it to the "bit bucket" or
"null device"?
Back in my youth when I live in VMS-land you could delete a file by
copying it to NL:

I have written a windows service as part of an interface between two
different systems. The first system will write output into a file in a

Hello,
The method Directory.Delete(path, true) of .NET 2.0 called from within a web
app does not work correctly if the initial directory is not empty : all the
files inside the root directory and subdirectories are actually deleted, but
the leaf subdirectories in the tree remain "locked" (they are not accessible
anymore by the webapp or by...

In short, I'm getting an IOException "Directory is not empty" if I have a

view.
For example, I have a directory path of "C:\TestDelete\Sub1". I have
Windows Explorer open and I have "Sub1" selected in the tree view. There

Hi,
I have the following code to select a folder and then delete it. I keep
getting a Path/File error on the line that deletes the actual folder. The
line before that line deletes the files in the folder but I get the error
message when the procedure attempts to delete the folder selected in the
BrowseforFolderbyPath function.
How can I...

Directory.Delete(path, true (recursive)) throws an exception of the
directory is not empty. silly as they could have overloaded the
method further providing for deletions with files...
anyway, i also tried using Process and spawning a DOS rmdir command
but that it quite inelegant.
any ideas as to how to cleanly do this?
thanks, dave

I am using VB.NET 2005.
When I try to delete a folder that has files underneath it, it gave me "the
directory is not empty" error.
f = New IO.DirectoryInfo("C:\myfolder")
If f.Exists Then
f.Delete() --error "the directory is not empty"
End If
How can I delete a folder with files underneath it ? Thank you.

I'm trying to remove a directory and all its contents from within a
script. I wrote a recursive function to take care of it, but when I
run it I get random "Directory not empty" error messages.
I dropped some code in to echo out the name of the file that's about
to be rmdir()ed or unoink()ed (depending if it's a file or a
directory) to see...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it. ...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...
