Benchmark value for Java coding productivity

5 New Member
Hi,
Is there any benchmark value or some reasonble numbers for estimating Java code productivity? I can probably use this value to know how my team members are doing when compared to benchmark values. Or may be to estimate future productivity. Will the values change depending lifecycle model, say Waterfall, RUP, etc or depending on Agile or traditional developement methodology.

Thanks.

"Nine Language Performance Round-up: Benchmarking Math & File I/O" http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=5602 I think this is an unfair comparison! I wouldn't dream of developing a numerical application in Python without using prebuilt numerical libraries and data objects such as dictionaries and lists. I have been experimenting with numerical algorithms in Python with a heavy use of the Numeric module. My experience is that Python...

Hi I am planning to open a software company to develop client-server apps and web applications for my client. Now, i am in a difficult situation to determine what is the best platform i should use to develop the application for my end users. Should I use Java or MS.Net technology or should I mix both of them ? Basically, I have these criteria in mind before I decide which platform I should adopt : 1. Ease of use - which one is easy to...

I find my self sometimes, trying Object app = Object(); Object *app = Object(); Object app = new Object();

I just want to know other peoples' views about this. Now that VS2005 is out, how do people feel about visual editors? Personally I am so comfortable with hand coding that Visual Studio along with other comparable tools seem to slow me down or just don't provide enough value to what I'm doing. I truly hope I'm missing the point and really want to discover something about Visual Studio that makes me want to switch, but until then, I just...

The CERT/CC has just deployed a new web site dedicated to developing secure coding standards for the C programming language, C++, and eventually other programming language. We have already developed significant content for the C programming language that is available at: https://www.securecoding.cert.org/ by clicking on the "CERT C Programming Language Secure Coding Standard"

While asking some Java enthusiasts what they think about C#, I came across this: http://www.manageability.org/blog/archive/20030520%23p_the_problem_with_cameron Reportedly, the (essentially) same program in C# is much, much slower than in Java. This is a program that is heavy on regexes (which I'm not an expert on) and am wondering if the C# version makes an elementary blunder. Do any experts

A JVM developer called John Rose from Sun Microsystems recently claimed on a mailing list that Sun's JVM offers C-like performance whereas .NET only offers performance comparable to old JVM implementations: http://groups.google.com/group/jvm-languages/msg/e8ee4b7f74c93ded I thought I'd test this by running the Java and C# implementations of the commonly-cited SciMark benchmark. At first sight, Sun's JDK 6 was 5% faster than .NET 3.5.

I know one benchmark doesn't mean much but it's still disappointing to see Python as one of the slowest languages in the test: http://blog.dhananjaynene.com/2008/07/performance-comparison-c-java-python-ruby-jython-jruby-groovy/

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
