Wanted: Java wrappers for COM

Hi guys,

Can anyone recommend any Java libraries for wrapping COM? I've looked at
Jacob (http://danadler.com/jacob/), but it appears to be a dead project.

Thanks,

Stubbier

This may be a dumb thing to ask, but besides the penalty for dynamic typing, is there any other real reasons that Python is slower than Java? maurice

No, I'm not a troll, just angry. I just started learning C++, and find it extremely lacking compared to Java. For example, I had to write my own functions to do something as simple as a case insensitive string comparison, and a substring search. Then I found that there are no networking classes to speak of (except sockets). After I thought about it, C++ really pales by comparison. Java has a rich set of networking classes, regular...

Hi, I am developing a new application running on Windows platform that needs to interface with existing legacy code - written in basic C / C++. I am trying to evaluate Java vs C# implementations. Originally, I have the impression that C# should be a clear winner. I started with Java and using the guideline from the book "Java Native Interface". Though complex, the book provide details of the practical implementation and potential...

I posted for help on legacy code interface 2 days ago. Probably I didn't make it clear in my original mail. I got a couple of answers but none of them address my issues directly (See attached response). My first reply directed me to source code migration but I didn't have the source code. The second reply mentioned about .NET interoperability (PInvoke I think) but I MENTIONED THAT I COULDN'T FIND ANY DOCUMENTATION FROM MSDN LIBRARY BASED ON...

I wrote a C# program that interfaces with a data vendor over the web using an API they supplied and their examples in C#. Now I have another data vendor's API and example that I want to add to my C# program. But this new API is written in Java. They gave me an example source code that uses their API but the actual API looks like it is stored in a few .jar files. I unzipped those .jar files into many .class files. I think these .class...

What is the current best way to access .net class / methods from within java. We are currently evaluating JNBridge, which is a great product but is a little overkill for this project. CORBA is another option but have not found any really good examples. Web services will be to slow as large amounts of data will need to be transferred between the Java and ..NET platforms. Why we want to do this? We are working on combining several...

I've been programming Python for a couple of years now. Now I'm looking to move on to either C++ or Java, but I'm not sure which. Which one do you think will be a better transition for a Python programmer? Which one will educate me the best?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
