Hi
I ve installed Apache Tomcat 5.0.19 on my windows xp machine. I have
developed a lot of servlets and jsp pages and everything works fine. BUT,
when i try to reach my pages from other machines it doesnt work, Why? So,
typing http://localhost:8080 works for me. But typing htttp:ipnumber: 8080
gives a "Page cannot be displayed". I have shutdown my firewall too, but
without succeding. Is this a tomcat version just thought to be used as a
testing server?? I cant find info about that. Please, any hint?

Im using http://111.111.111.111:8080
but the real ipnumber is another one.
If I try to access my page from my machine, I succed when I type http://localhost:8080
and also trying with http://111.111.111.111:8080
But other people, typing this address from their home computer cant access
it. Why?

Do u have any firewall installed on your local..
Basically... if you have a firewall installed.. then most potentialy your
firewall is blocking the acess.
How you can test .. is basically by going to the other PCs..
the you do..
Start --> Run --> cmd.exe
Then .. you should type..
telnet <your ip address> 8080
You be looking at a blank screen now. If not.. means something is blocking
it..
ANyway.. just for your information, doing the telnet stuffs on top..
basically trying to create a telnet session directly to your IP address to
port 80.

I have a firewall, but i shutdown it. I have the Apache webserver running on
port 8000. People can access my index page for the apache server under
htdocs at http://ipnumber:8000
BUT when they type http://ipnumber:8080 they get Page cannot be displayed.
However, if I myself type http://ipnumber:8080 i can see the tomcat index
page. Very strange, inst it? I first thought I needed to integrate tomcat
with the apache server. But you dont need to do this to make the page
accesible worlwide, right?

Some ISP's block ports which can be potentially used as webservers..on
accounts that are not paying for the access....i know Optusnet in Australia
does it?
Brings up a curious question...are you able to re-assign the tomcat port to
another port?

Yes, you right. the problem was the port number 8080. For some reason it was
blocked. I changed the tomcat port and it works now. many thanks.

We are getting new computers at work and I got the word today that pc-lan
(network admins) do not want IIS installed on ANY machine. We are primarily
a Java development house, so they will not balk about me installing Tomcat.
Can I run PHP from Tomcat the same (or close to) as IIS?

entered into the browser (ie. "http://myhost.mydomain.com"), and the
default path does NOT have an index.html, but rather an index.jsp
file, Tomcat response with an "HTTP/1.1 302 Moved Temporarily" and a
"Location: http://myhost.mydomain.com/index.jsp" ... I was wondering
if there is a configuration for tomcat that can stop this behavior,
i.e., just run index.jsp?
