Programming and selling java applications.

What are the rules/laws in regards to building an application based in java
and then selling that application ? Are there hidden costs or fee's that
must be paid to SUN before one may comence sales ?

No, you don't have to pay royalties to Sun. You do have to abide by
their rules if you plan on distributing a JVM with your application.
Look at the README.txt and the LICENSE file in your Java home
directory, it's all spelled out there. Basically, if you want to
distribute the JVM, you have to distribute the entire JVM... no
removing files or classes that you don't need (there are a few
optional files).

Hi, I implemeneted an FTP client and server long time back using Java. I found sockets porgramming in java quite useful and easy to handle. I now wanted to implement a similar program using C++. My questions are 1. How good a language is C++ for network programming? 2. what are good onine resources to learn C++ network programming? 3. How similar it is to Java socket programming? Thanks in advance.

I am new to programming. Over the years I have "tried" many langauges such as basic, pascal(yea yea, I know, out of date), python and C. I was under the impression that one must lean C before moving on to C++. Is that true, or can I just begin with C++?

Hi all, During my degree, BEng (Hons) Electronics and Communications Engineering, we did C programming every year, but I never kept it up, as I had no interest and didn't see the point. But now I really want to get back into it as I see a point with GNU/Linux. I want to get my old skills back and write something or help on some projects etc. I need some good books. I used to have one called "A Book On C", but sold it,

I'm considering using VJ# in a first programming course in addition to or in place of JBuilder and the J2SE. Given install problems other students have had, VJ# seems like a nice alternative. I expect criticism. But: 1. Most of my students are using WinXP. 2. VJ#.Net Express is free and has an outstanding GUI. 3. Code written in VJ#, via the Mono Project could always be ported to other platforms. 4. Java compiler source seems close to...

For building Windows desktop apps, the clear favorite is C#. But my clients can't afford to buy Microsoft products. So I need to develop software for Linux users and web applications. In the open source world, what is the programmer's language of choice? Judging by the number of members in each of these http://www.google.com/Top/Computers/Programming/Languages/Open_Source/ user groups, it looks like the top 3 open source languages...

You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
