I just started using MySQL, and cannot find how to configure host access in the my.cnf file. I want to be able to allow access to a MySQL database from a remote host, and also from a particular network. How do you configure access of this sort? -Thanks

Further to 'Security - more complex than I thought' Has anybody ever seen any studies? Or anecdotal evidence? Done any studies themselves? Done any lab testing - you know - 10 users asked to get past Access (or other) security? It'd be interesting to know. And no, I don't have any prejudices. Yours, Mike MacSween

I have a form which the user must complete before closing. I have disabled the window x button and use my own exit button. When selected it checks to see if the user has completed the entries otherwise it cancels the close. However, the user can still right click on the task bar and close my application. Is there any way of preventing this. Thanks Alex

We have an app that will be run from a network share. I know that on the machine that will run the app, I need to grant the proper permissions. On the laptop, I installed the .Net framework verson 2.0 (dotnetfx) but when I went to the control panel under administrative tools, the .Net 2.0 configuration tool was not there. The 1.1 tool was there, but not the 2.0 tool. How do you configure code access without that tool? Chris

Hi, We upgraded our W2K for a W2K3 server at the beginning of the year. It's purpose is to handle TS distribution of a couple of MS-ACCESS 97 apps stored locally on the server. The server is stable. But there are some slow downs within the apps. Anything involving a file access is slow. Let's suppose that I want to open a file from within MS-ACCESS.

We have numerous Access 97 apps that we run on our Terminal Server, but two apps in particular is giving us a problem. The problem we are running into is when you select a drop down menu, it errors out saying the SQL server cannot be found. This is through the terminal session and when logged on the server locally. If I run the apps on my workstation they work fine. In one of the problem apps, it runs flawless except for a similar...

Hi all, So I bought a new laptop 10 days ago to test my apps with Vista. (home premium) Apparently Office 2007 is pre-installed. (a time limited but complete test version, no SP1) So I take the opportunity to test some new features of Access2007 before actually 'stepping over'. First thing that troubles me of course is 'the ribbon', but my question now is about speed. I opened one of my Access 2000-apps in Access 2007. Speed and...

I will be creating an application using MS Access as a client to SQL Server 2005. Each user will have the client installed on his/her machine. Some users will be attached to the local network where the SQL Server resides. Others will access the network via VPN. I was thinking of using an MDW workgroup file located on a network server to control access to various user interface elements (i.e., forms, reports) using defined groups. In...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
