Outlook Web Access no longer working under SSL. Or at all in fact.

44 New Member
Hi all;
This is driving me up the wall! A few months ago the Remote Web Workplace failed to work on a pretty much fresh install of SBS 2003. I tried everything in the Microsoft rulebook to get it working but instead OWA started playing up. Forms-based authentication stopped working, then it started coming up with Page Not Found errors, but -only- if SSL was turned on at the server end. If I turn SSL off then forms-based authentication starts working again. Either way, all the mailboxes are now empty after login. Below is a list of the problems in a more concise format, if anyone has any insights into it then that would help massively. I'm not even 100% sure how OWA actually hangs together (how it connects from IIS to Active Directory to Exchange, for example) so any sources of information would be great. Here we go:

1. OWA stopped working during an attempt to get the Remote Web Workplace running. RWW never worked out-of-the-box.
2. All attempts to get OWA working (as per the Microsoft KB) either didn't work or made it worse.
3. I tried reinstalling Exchange and IIS together (as per MS KB articles). This broke the Exchange transport system but didn't fix the problem.
4. Tried reinstating the default directories. This didn't work, and also broke the SSL certificate. https://vpn.me.com/exchange now gives 404 errors.
5. Disabled SSL on Default Web Page in IIS. http://vpn.me.com/exchange (no SSL) now logs in but all the mailboxes are empty. At this point I gave up. Two months later:
6. http://vpn.me.com/exchange brings up the login page but now none of the logins register.

It's a good job there's only four of us in the company, otherwise I'd be in real trouble! Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this, or anywhere I can go to make a start on piecing the system back together block by block?

Thanks folks!

Hi We are developing an off-the-shelf software suite for a certain business sector. Most of the program is simply a GUI on top of some .mdb files. Its a .net application written in c# One major requirement is "Outlook Integration". The Outlook contact folders are to be used for contact management I want to know what is the standard way to do this these days. Most of the information in MSDN seems rather old I first used the Outlook...

Hi all, Well, MS finally got the best of all worlds with the way the new message popup works in Outlook 2002. Does anyone know how a similar custom popup could be implemented from VBA, or if that's not possible, with a VB DLL library?

We've had a very large A97 app running fine for the last seven years. I've just converted to SQL Server backend, which is being tested, but meanwhile the JET based version, running under terminal server, has suddenly started running very slowly. The network engineer has thrown up his hands and said "It's Access 97". I've checked out lots of things including the Oplocks setting and other stuff from this NG, and I think I've done everything...

Hi What future does access have after the release of vs 2005/sql 2005? MS doesn't seem to have done anything major with access lately and presumably hoping that everyone migrates to vs/sql. Any comments? Thanks

To all Microsoft partners and customers who have been unable to download recently or access ASP.NET documentation from the msdn2 website and for all of those customers who have been lied to and misled by some of the sleazy MVPs and the lying cockroaches that Microsoft has working for the company... Microsoft has serious problems with their servers and websites. The entire MSDN server farm and all download resources MSDN manages has been...

I posted a few days ago that it seems to me that the Access 2007 rich text feature does not support: a) full text justification; b) programmatic manipulation. I was hoping that someone might know one way or the other whether that was true or not, or could point me to an article or help text that would. What I have seen so far online and in Access 2007 help seems to confirm the above. But that (or at least (b)) seems incredible that it...

In case anyone has ran into this yet. The following code used to work with older versions of the MS Outlook library, but would error out in 2007: Dim objOutlook As Outlook.Application Dim objOutlookMsg As Outlook.MailItem Dim objOutlookRecip As Outlook.Recipient Dim objOutlookAttach As Outlook.Attachment Set objOutlook = CreateObject("Outlook.Application") ' Create the message. Set objOutlookMsg = objOutlook.CreateItem(olMailItem)

In my business, I use Quickbooks extensively for billing and accounting and a custom built Access DB for project management. I recently began using MS Outlooks contacts quite extensively as well (recently bought a PDA to bring to job sites!). I have been able to get things set up so that I can synchronize my Quickbooks customer and vendor lists with the Outlook contacts, and thus with my PDA and this has been immensely helpful. My DB has...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
