I have used the simple example of HTTP Authentication from the PHP website
as follows:
<?php
if (!isset($_SERVER)) {
header('WWW-Authenticate: Basic realm="My Realm"');
header('HTTP/1.0 401 Unauthorized');
echo 'Text to send if user hits Cancel button';
exit;
} else {

I have set up an ASP script (with some help from microsoft.public.inetserver.asp.general!) that grabs the windows username of the user and puts it into an Access database.
It is setup on IIS5 as a virtual directory and will only be used internally on our network.
The script works fine with the authentication set as "basic authentication" but this prompts the user for a login and password.
I want it to be automated which I believe would...

Hi,
I have a password-protected area on my site. I'm not using any server
authentication methods: Instead I prompt the user for a username and
password using an HTML form and check these against a database of
registered users.
I was thinking that this page should be returning a HTTP status code of
"401 Unauthorized" instead of its current "200 OK". My reasoning being
that this would let search engines know what's going on when they

Hi!
I tried to implement custom error pages using the <customErrors> directive
in a web.config file. It worked fine for "simple" errors like HTTP 404, like
this example:
<customErrors mode="On">
<error statusCode="404"
redirect="http://localhost/ErrorPages/Error404.aspx"/>
</customErrors>

I need to be able to determine if the user is a member of a given AD group.
I have a method of doing this, but it is not suitable for 64bit OS's, so I
need to find an alternative route. I actually think an alternative route
might actually be a better route.
I'm not an ADSI expert (frankly, I find it confusing) and I don't want to
learn any more - I just want to be able to do this one thing.
How do you guys go about achieving this?

header('WWW-Authenticate: Basic realm="My Realm"');
header('HTTP/1.0 401 Unauthorized');
echo 'Text to send if user hits Cancel button';
exit;

Hi,
When I try to access an SQL Server 2005 database using ASP pages, it works fine on one PC when the ASP pages are on the local machine and the database on the server. However, when the ASP pages and the database are both on the server, where I want them to be, it displays the error message below:
You are not authorized to view this page
You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied....

Hi,
when accessing a secured 3rd party webservice i'm getting a 401 HTTP Statuscode (unauthorized). When entering the url in
a browser and entering the username and password manually, the wsdl is returned. So the username and password should
be ok.
I'm using this code:
Merchant myMerch = new Merchant();
myMerch.merchantIdentifier=merchantId;

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
