IIS - ASP Permissions?

1 New Member
I've created an asp page which takes post-submitted data and either writes it to a file as a means of gathering data from users. It works perfectly for me, but for any other user, even network administrator, the submit button just returns an unhelpful HTTP 500 Internal Server Error.

I've checked permissions on the folders I am trying both to read from and write to, and think they are fine but am completely stumped by this. Any suggestions as to where to start work on resolving this would be much appreciated.

Running IIS V6.0 on WinSer 2003 with ASP.NET 2.0.50727 (I think)

Try this, go to the WWWROOT folder wipe all all security settings and then put in Everyone with granting all access. This will be a base for you to start investigating. It this doesn't work, then you have some other issue.

Once you can get it to work with Everyone, start experimenting with other user profiles until you get a good secure site.

You need to allow asp pages in IIS, they are not enabled by default - look at web service extensions.

I'm writing an application using VB 6.0 as the front-end GUI, and the MSDE version of SQL Server as the back-end (it's a program for a really small # of users --- less then 3-4). I'm trying to determine, through the Visual Basic interface, the permissions of each user that's using the application on his/her machine. For example, let's say I'm user "Michael" that's sitting down at my machine using the app. I've written. The security...

I give permissions for ASPNET on a top level subdirectory. A windows program copies a file into the subdirectory, however, my web service cannot access the file because it does not have permissions. Shouldn't the file automatically inherit permissions by being dropped into that top level subdirectory?

Hello, Is there a way to change table permissions in VB Code? I can't seem to find much that's concise in the help file. Here's the situation; I have a table in the "data" portion of a split database. The table is a list of values that shouldn't be accidentally changed by the user, so I've taken the administer and delete permissions off. I'm using the regular workgroup file, with the default Admin user name, so there is no funky...

Hello: I had a nice php application running on my server here at home, and I uploaded it to a shared public type server and it started to break all over the place. It turns out that some scripts required higher permissions that others, but I can't figure out what the difference is. They all read from the database. Some write to the database, but not all the ones that require higher permissions do. I don't understand what it is about...

We run some web services (IIS 5 and IIS 6) that communicate to a COM out of process server, which in turn communicates to another out of process COM server (long story). We have had lots of permissions issues getting the web service to communicate to the COM object to the point that we use the "administrator" account (yes, I know this is really bad). We need to tidy this for security purposes and to run under Vista and properly set up...

Hello, I am working on a project to manipulate XML files. All of the files, the code, and the output are on network drives. When I run my program I get an exception (see below). I tried giving the LocalIntranet_Zone full permissions in the .NET Framework 2.0 Configuration msc. This had no effect whatsoever. What do I need to do to fix this? Thanks,

Hello all, I have searched far and wide for a solution to my issue. In short, here is the problem: 1. 3 PC's enter data into an Access 2003 database (PC's are running Vista w/ Office 2007 pro). The database has been used for a long time and we haven't upgraded it to a 2007 version database. 2. One of the PC's hosts the "master" database, the 2 others are using Replica's of "master" database. At the end of each work day, the...

Hello, in my web application, I have to create permissions for each user. So what I am doing is that for each role (using sqlmembership in .net) I am creating a column in the database to hold a group of permissions which I will then do some 'bit banging' in my web application to see if the permission is set or not. An int is 32 bits, and a long is 64.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
