Please try this out on a PC and a Mac in IE: http://www.neave.com/test.php
The boxes should be both the same height, and evenly spaced top and
bottom above the text. Mac IE, for some reason, cannot accept a height
attribute for input boxes.
Does anyone know of a workaround?
Thanks buckets,
Paul.

I don't have a Mac and PC in front of me for testing sites. Not many
people do. http://www.neave.com/test.php
All the usual problems that you should solve before asking questions here.
1. validate your pages (you'll find that you need a dtd)

2. don't use pixels to specify font size, for all the reasons dicussed
here numerous times

Likely reason: It follows the spec. IE/Mac conforms to specs much
more than IE/Win.
cannot accept a height attribute for input boxes.

Height ...
Applies to: all elements but non-replaced inline elements, table
columns, and column groups
</quote>
AFAICS, the input element cannot have height set.
Does anyone know of a workaround?
Perhaps line-height (untested).
On my forms, input[text] and buttons are scaled to the font size.
What are you trying to accomplish, btw?
(P.S. Please don't flame me for using pixels!)
Then don't use pixels for font.

I have just read a thread which stated that input box is a replaced inline
box and therefore it has intrinsic values for height and width
