Sendmail.php with CSS?

4 New Member
I've designed two websites this past year using basic HTML in which i've employed an email signup form that has worked using sendmail.php

Now, i'm designing my first site with CSS. It's going pretty well, and i thought i could employ that email signup the same way, but when i do, it doesn't work. The validator tells me that: Error Line 61 column 418: there is no attribute "onClick".

So, i know i can't use that old code, i'm used to using. I've been digging around online and I'm reading stuff about .js but i don't want to tackle a whole new thing if i don't have to.

As always, i'm on a deadline and need the easiest reliable fix.

the site is: http://www.omyminimag.com and the code is on the 'connect' link at the top.

(*btw I'm looking to hook-up with someone who is really good at css and php that i can subcontract to for small things like this--if anyone is interested, please let me know.)

Two things. First, your doctype is incorrect. It should be this:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"

New pages should always use strict, though.

Second thing is xhtml is case sensitive. So you should be doing 'onclick' in lower case, not 'onClick'.

I appreciate your response. However, I am in Transistional mode. And, just making code lowercase isn't going to make it work--there's more to it, right?

Or you could print the code out, place it in a brown paper bag, wave it over your head and scream like a chicken.

well, this forum is a waste of time apparently.

You are wasting our time by not doing as instructed. I told you Xhtml requires lower case but you declare that won't fix it without trying. So, go away.

melrox,

Change the doctype and the onclick then let us know, saying this is a waste of time won't get your problem fixed. People are here to help but if your going to blow off our suggestions/fixes then why did you ask for help in the first place?

I already stated that the doctype was already in Transistional mode. When I read that about lowercase, I changed the whole string of text into lowercase and it still didn't work. Then, i went back and wrote that about it ... 'there must be more to it, right?"

I come back and there's a smart ass remark about a paperbag--so i figure, it was a waste of time.

I just went back and changed only the onClick to lowercase and it cleared it up. Thank you. It seems odd that the onclick has to be lowercase but "MM_openBrWindow" gets to be uppercase. It threw me off in light of what the validation error was telling me.

When someone is frustrated enough to seek out a forum that may not be the time or place for sarcasm from complete strangers.

The reason "MM_openBrWindow" works is this is a user defined function where as onclick is not. You have to admit the paperbag comment is somewhat funny.

You didn't say you had tried it. You said:
just making code lowercase isn't going to make it work
I told you to change onClick to lower case but you didn't do it. Then, when you did, it worked as I said it would.

I said your doctype is incorrect. You said you were already using 'transitional' but THE DOCTYPE IS INCORRECT. Check the differences.

You may be frustrated but I was frustrated trying to help you when you appear to be ignoring my help.
