web page "purifier"?

I've used and loved the webmaster tools at Delorie.com for some years now. I
just added some more text content to my home page, but in the web page
"purifier" the text doesn't render as I thought it should. It looks fine in
MSIE 6, lol. I didn't want the text to be centered, and specified a css
class to clear the floats above and text-align to the left. Does it look
that way for other people using other browsers than MSIE? If not, is it a
fault of my CSS, my (X)HTML, or just the way things are and I have to get
used to it?

the page in question is www.TheBicyclingGuitarist.net/ with the stylesheet
at http://www.TheBicyclingGuitarist.net...dex_filter.css that uses the @import
trick to go to index.css

What "purifier" web page?
What text is centered that should not be?
Why not get another browser so you see for yourself?
The only centered text I see is the <h1> bit (and the bottom nav), as
specified in the CSS. Mozilla v1.7.3.

Thank you, Jim. If Mozilla sees it right, it's probably okay.
At http://www.delorie.com/web/purify.html their "generic" browser simulation
renders the paragraph of text below the image as centered. I do want the
<h1> bit and the bottom bits centered, but not the paragraph about which one
minute song I recommend as a sample of my work.

Their "generic" browser is what I used to see for myself. What I was
wondering was what possible reason could there be for my CSS to not render
properly in their browser, and if that was the case in other browsers. I am
leery of installing other browsers on my machine.

When I try it, it looks fine, the lower paragraph is aligned left as I'd
expect to see it.

This is the WebTV view thing, right? Did you set your width and see how
things overlap?

Don't be. I use IE6, Opera (7.23, eventually going to upgrade), Firefox
1.0, Lynx. Used to have IE 5.0 and 5.5 (along with IE6) but I never bother
with them. Same with NN4 and Mozilla, one is old and busted and the other,
to my knowledge, renders essentially the same as Firefox, which I prefer.

In fact i could dump Lynx, which I'm not fond of and can somewhat emulate
with Opera. So there's really just 3 I use regularly.

Come on, Chris, you know you can't trust IE6 for any damn thing.

The generic browser is nice, but no substitute for real browser
testing. I'm lucky enough to work somewhere they let me have three
different test machines (one OS per machine), but it's no problem to
install lots of browsers onto a single machine.

I'd recommend:
Win IE 6 (and 5 and 5.5 as well, using the multiple-IE trick)
Mozilla (or Firefox) - use a recent version and also use something
like 1.0/1.1
Opera (any 7 version)
Netscape 4
Lynx

Additionally, but ones you can't get on a Windows PC:
Mac IE
Safari (Mac) or Konqueror (Linux)

And get the trial versions of JAWS and Home Page Reader, if you have a
soundcard. It's a *very* useful thing to know their
capabilities. Don't cheat by leaving the monitor turned on while you
try them.

After having attended a workshop on accessibility I am just downloading the
Jaws screenreader which has a free demo mode. It is a very interesting
enhancement to the testing environment, as it reveals some weaknesses in
HTML that a text browser does not. (Ok, this is OT in a CSS group...)

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers.
