floats in MSIE

Hi

Now I've run into another issue with floats in MSIE. The problem
is that under some circumstances (see problem 3 on my test page below)
floating a block effects the padding of a following block.

http://217.209.105.84/float.html

In the example the extra div in not necessary but i want to use this
structure
to float somw <li>s inside a <ul> to make a horizontal menu.

I still haven't found a solution to problem 2.

Anyone knows how to make MSIE display these things correctly.

regards

No time to check code, but I did just compare Mozilla and MSIE
5.01/Win2k. Test 1 and 3 look pretty similar. Only case 2 is
different. In MSIE the floated box is half in the "lorem" paragraph,
half in the margin; in Mozilla, it is entirely in the margin.

Standard advice -- even given here recently -- for hiding CSS from MSIE 4.x is to enclose the styles in @media { ... }. The same advice is given at . Unfortunately, it doesn't work with MSIE 4.72 (Win 98). That version quite happily reads the stylesheets and then mangles the presentation. It's really horrible -- even on a simple page like http://www.acad.sunytccc.edu/instruct/sbrown/ (The college name and address should be on two lines...

Thanks to the people who helped me with centering a block of text in MSIE 5.5 in the site I am developing at http://www.members.iinet.net.au/~abell1/test/index.htm with city.css at http://www.members.iinet.net.au/~abell1/test/city.css. I think I have that under control now, though I won't be able to test it until Monday. But the recommended technique of enclosing the block in a div or p with text-align:centre and using text-align: left...

Aloha, Can anyone tell me why this works in safari, Netscape, msie 5.x Mac but not msie6 windows? There is supposed to be a green stripe, a yellow box, a red box, and another green stripe all on one line. In windows the red box is below the yellow one. Thanks, Gary

Hi, on the following page, http://stian.freeshell.org/index.php the floated image in the latest post is shown as tiny/zero-width in Mozilla 1.7 and Firefox 1.0 (you can just about make it left of the text), while Opera 8 and MSIE shows it like intended, i.e. using the full width of the picture. The CSS is here - http://stian.freeshell.org/default.css I just started using floated images in my posts, and I had not noticed it

Has anyone ever seen a IComparer for floats the returns magnitude. i.e. instead of returning -1, it would return -5. To let you know HOW different the two numbers are. obviously for int it is a - b. But for float the results would have to be normalize some how to a 32bit range. I understand there would be percision errors. Thanks Tom

Is it possible to convert a very long list of strings to a list of floats in a single statement ? I have tried float(x) and float(x) but neither work. I guess I would have to write a loop if there isn't a way.

Hello, I'm having trouble getting MSIE 6.0 (running on XP SP2) to accept a cookie which works fine in both Firefox and wget. The web server is Boa 0.94.13 (a small embedded server) using PHP 4.3.10 for CGI. Even with the lowest security settings in MSIE there is no cookie acceptance, and no "Cookie:" HTTP header is being sent back by MSIE. This is the php code for a fairly minimal testcase:

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
