I used to write HTML with server-side scripts (long ago), but not for a long time, and so I think that the following should be easy for you.

This is a great site. I humbly request an addition to it.

I was reading old articles here and found (from Apr 4 '16) Control External Processes using Scripts - CMD by NeoPa, one of some of whom I have learned to hold in high regard. I wanted to leave the article alone, pristine in its original form, but I also wanted to have a record that I could find quickly that I liked the article. How to do this, I thought. Leave a comment. I did that and now I can look back in my list of commented articles and quickly find it again later.

That (which I did) is not good enough.

I found a solution.

Please, bytes.com gurus, please consider the following:

On the article page it shows to the right

Article Stats
viewed: 6754
comments: 2
date written:Apr 4 '16

[follow or unfollow] this article
I do not want to follow the article. That process is not what I want for this article. For some articles it is applicable, but not for me for this one type of article.

I would like two buttons below the "date written" line:
  1. (1) A "Found useful {private}" button. With a mouseover description that informs the user that "This may be clicked if this one article has been found directly useful to the current reader. This button is for the one reader to use in their private collected fast reference. The private collected fast reference shows up in a scroll-able list that is on each of the logged-in viewed pages of each user."
  2. (2) A "Found useful {public}" button. With a mouseover description that informs the user that "This may be clicked if this one article has been found directly useful to the current reader. This button is for the one reader to notify the public that they found this article directly useful to them. The public also (separately) shows up in a scroll-able list that is on each of the logged-in viewed pages of each user."

You have been requested to make some upgrades before this. I humbly request that you do not be the spoon that "does not bend for there is no spoon." This can be done with code. This is a site of amazing coders. If you reject this idea, then fine. But, please consider it.

Furthermore, I would like to see a button beside (to the immediate left of) the title (Example: [button] Control External Processes using Scripts - CMD) which when clicked opens a vertical scroll box that lists (further clickable) the names of ALL of the users that have themselves clicked to say publicly that they found the article directly useful to themselves.

Maybe?

Thank you.

Thanks dev7060. I thought that this idea should be open to other users that might offer some comments on this idea. I expected that experts would decide and do or discard. Either way, this is a great site.

I have a login form that uses the post method to carry the information to the next page. The form works just fine in ie6.0, but fails in mozilla and fails in ie5.2 on a mac. "HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request" was the original error msg now that I reinstalled iislockdown and urscan I get "The parameter is incorrect." If I use the get method with this form it works just fine on everything. I can't say for certain but I think this problem started...

Is there a way to monitor the amount of bytes being transfered as part of a request as they are sent to an aspx? I've attempted to examine the Request.InputStream object via an HTTP Module, but it gets the whole stream, and then continues processing. Thanks in advance for any help! Folks, I've been running into problems with a multipage Tif viewer that I wrote to display fax images in an ASP.Net app. I've been basically following the standard examples on how to do this: - Read the image from a file - set the current frame - write the frame data to an output stream

Dear All, I'm facing a small problem. I have a portal web site, that contains articles, for each article, the end user can send a comment about the article. The problem is: I the comment length is more that 1249 bytes, then the progress bar of the browser will move too slow and then displaying that the page not found!!!! If the message is less than or equal to 1249 then no problem.

Hello, I have an aspx page which is posting xml content to another asp.net page, but the request.length is always 0. I think there should be something there. below is the code for the requesting page and consuming page. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks. //CLIENT PAGE string xml = "<foo />"; string uri = string.Concat("http://localhost/consume-req.aspx);

This is like the previous one. Please check for sanity and approve for posting at python-dev. I would like to have something like "option base" in Visual Basic. IIRC it used to allow me to choose whether 0 or 1 should be used as the base of member indices of arrays. In Python, the same can be used with strings, lists, tuples etc. This would mean: foo = "foo"

How can I determine if a report in the Crystal Report Viewer on an ASP page has been printed by the user? It's important to know the difference between someone just viewing a report, and actually printing it. In olde days (e.g. VB6) I could hide the print button on the on the report viewer itself, put my own print button on the screen, and log the print action at the same time I called the Print method for the viewer myself. This new...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
