Needs help with search engines

1. what is robots.txt. I am looking at my log file and have been noticing
that this file is not found..who creates it or how does it get created?

2. How do I get my web site to be recognized by search engines? I have
submitted it to several engines but as of today none of them have it on
their searches..I has been over a month since I did the submit. Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You.
or how does it get created?
You type nothing in a text editor, save it as robots.txt,
and upload it to your server.
You only type things in it if there's anything you _don't_
want to be spidered c.q. indexed.

I think without a robots.txt the same thing happens as with
an empty one, though.

Just wait.
Posting a url here might already help ;-)

Depends on the search engine. With Google (which is probably the one
you're most concerned about), you need to have links to your
site from sites that are already in Google's index.
I have
submitted it to several engines but as of today none of them have it on

You may simply have to wait longer. Yahoo and MSN have not yet indexed
pages that I added to my site in January. Google picked them up within a
few days, but of course I had links to them from my other pages.

Ken,

If you are talking about www.suzukischoolofhouston.com, if fear you will
have a longer wait.

Most modern search engines act favourably towards well designed sites with
appropriate content. I think you can muster up plenty of appropriate
content, but it's the well designed site bit that you will struggle on. I'm
not meaning to be cruel, but your site could do with some work.

As a minumum, you need appropriate page titles, headings and sub headings,
with plenty of appropriate content including all your important keywords. In
addition, a lot a weight is given to the number of other sites that link
into your pages.

I've obviously barely scraped the surface here, but it's a start.

Howdy I've been given conflicting answers about search engines picking up urls like: http://mysite.com/index.php?var1=1&var2=2&var3=3 Do search engines pick up these urls? I've been considering converting a site of mine to PHP-Nuke, but if the individual modules aren't picked up in search engines I'm not going to do it. Thanks phpKid

My manager wants me to develop a search program, that would work like they have it at edorado.com. She made up her requirements after having compared how search works at different websites, like eBay, Yahoo and others. This is what she wants my program to be able to do: (try this test at different websites just for fun). At eBay: - enter the word 'television' in a search field à you will get 2155 items.

Here's a question I don't know the answer to: I have a friend who makes very expensive, hand-made bamboo flyrods. He's widely recognized (in the fishing industry) as one of the 3-5 'best' rod makers in the world. He gets (sic) close to $5000 per custom made flyrod. A surprising number of people buy these fishing rods and never use them....they buy them as art-like investments. He is, after all, the best there is. But if you search on...

I am building a website with identical content in four different languages. On a first visit, the search engine determines the language of the content by the IP address of the visitor. What the user sees is content in only one language at a time. He or she can then switch to another language and set this as the preferred language, but again he or she sees content in only this one other language. The question now is: How do I get search...

I needed a tool for extracting patches from CVS based on the log messages. I am aware that a DB solution is the obvious route. The purpose here
