ISO review on domain hosting sites

I'm looking for some guidance and advice on domain registering and
hosting services. Something like a Consumer Reports rating of such
services would be great.

My father has asked for my help to set up a simple website for his
business. Nothing fancy; basically the Web equivalent of a business
card (location, hours of operation, contact info).

He would also like to buy/register half a dozen (similar-sounding)
domains. (They are still unclaimed).

Any recommendations or any pointers to ratings of such services
would be much appreciated.

Also, if there is a better NG to post this query to, please let me
know.

TIA,

jill

Seems to me you keep posting this answer so you can make more money on
the clickthrough. Unethical, imo.

In the UK I use www.123reg.co.uk for registering domains. They're part of
the HostEurope group, who can provide hosting, or you can host the domain
elsewhere by changing the nameservers. You can also set up domain forwarding
for free - so he can register the similar names, and forward them all to his
real domain.

Pete.

I'm looking to learn ASP.NET better and thinking about helping my church put together a website in order to do this. They need the help, I'd like the training, so I'm thinking of going this route to solve their needs. I'm wondering, though, if there are any hosts out there that do domain hosting that support ASP.NET and database connectivity without charging you an arm and a leg. And by database connectivity I don't mean Access, but rather...

I have a web farm that uses a state server for session management. A user logs on to a website (www1.mysite.com). When the same user visits www2.mysite.com I want the user to be logged in. Right now it he is not logged in on www2.mysite.com (both sites use the same state server). The reason for this seems to be that the user gets a new SessionId when he visits a new web server (www2.mysite.com for example). If there was a way to add a...

I'm tired of reading the fine print! Too many registrars out there. So I'm asking this group for a little help. I'm looking for a Registrar who will do an honest day's work for a fair price. I'm tired of Registrars who build in "gotchas" into their service offering that nab you for something more than you bargain for - including the right to screw you later in their fine print. I want a registrar who won't charge you to leave them....

Hi all. I've got an app that dumps a user id into a session after successful login. the login page is http://www.mydomain.com/login.php. If the user visits pages on my site without the www (i.e., http://mydomain.com/foo.php), the session works fine and login state is maintained. If he visits http://www.mydomain.com/foo.php, the app drops the logged-in state.

Hi all, Is there an easier way to handle that? I used Javascript to handle this when our two domains are hosted on two different servers(on different networks) and our search engine marketing people don't like the javascript links since they think the links are not favorable to a search robot. Now our company is thinking about hosting these two domians on the same server, So I am wodering if there is any easy way to do that. Would you...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
