force IE to print background-colors

hi,

is there a way (html/css/javascript) to force IE to print
background-colors exactly as specified in html/stylesheets?

I tried to use @media print { ... } to override IE's "print background
colors + images" option, but it doesn't work. Any other idea?

I'd like to avoid relying on the user for setting this option.

thanks,

No. It's a user option.

As you don't know what sort of printer the user has it's usually best
to be conservative with print stylesheets.

Bad luck.

In short I believe the answer is no:
http://www.developer.com/dhtml/article.php/639581

However if approp. you could produce images and/or pdf files - normally
these should print as you wish with layout/colours as designed originally.

The other thing you should consider is whether the users printer is working
properly.. they maybe running with one colour missing.
;-)
If they are printing using CMYK and there is no Cyan... and your page uses
that colour for background, then they wont see very much ;-)

This ActiveX component might help:
http://www.meadroid.com/sx_intro.asp

It allows you more complete control over such things as background-color
printing, provided the user allows the component to run.

Here is a question for people who are more comfortable than I am with new Python stuff like generators. I am having fun implementing things from the Wizard book (Abelson, Sussman, "Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs") in Python. In chapter 3.5 it is about streams as delayed lists. Streams are interesting because they are to lists like xrange is to range. Could save a lot on memory and

How hard (and desireable) would it be to give the user certain choices when it comes to printing web pages? The pages on my site use colours and pictures and contain an imbedded menu, among other things. Now, I could make certain assumptions on the user's behalf, such as making the background white and the text black, suppressing the menu from the printed page, and even suppressing the printing of the pictures if they are merely...

Sorry for posting this here but unfortunatly I couldn't find any appropriate newsgroup for this and since I've been active here with .net question I figured you guys might be able to help. This is a link to a very simple page that contains 2 DIV statements: http://xsinx.no-ip.com:8880/TestEmbedDiv.html One of them is embeded in the other. There is some clipping involved (the red layer is smaller than the yellow one). If you look at...

Hi, We have the following in our stylesheet, which acts as a page header: #homepageheader { left: 0px; top: 0px; right: 0px; height: 183px; background-image: url(graphics/header-salmoninbucket.jpg); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-color: #B6C7B6; } When you print, however, this doesn't appear.

I'm not sure if this is a javascript or a CSS issue... I'm looking for a way to force the printing of a background image when a page is printed. I'm dealing with a couple of large corporate policy manuals. Some of the material is archived. The archived pages have watermarks to visually identify them as outdated material. However, if the user has printing of background images turned off, how can I override this? This is also a...

I want the <div id="navigation"column to be the same color all the way to the bottom. The "background-image: url(bg_menu_tile.gif);" was a try to force it with a long 1-pixel graphic - didn't work. How do I print a background image? I read another article that says as long as print background becomes a default for IE settings, we need to "cheat" a little to print a site as close to what we see on the browser. So we created a "false" image of the background image, kept it from being displayed on site, but on the print sheet, calls for the "false image" Problem is i have a big gap between the "False" image and the next line. How do I solve...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
