overflow not visible if position is absolute

Hi,

I made a website, and there is a small problem. The wrapper div is positioned absolute in order to keep it at the centre of the page, but with this, the problem is, if the height of the screen is reduced, the upper portion of the page gets cut and can not be reached with scrolling.

The wrapper div's css is here:
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. #wrapper {
  2.     position: absolute;
  3.     top: 50%;
  4.     left: 50%;
  5.     width: 900px;
  6.     height: 650px;
  7.     padding-top: 30px;
  8.     margin: -325px auto auto -450px;
  9.     background: #333 url(images/bg2.jpg) no-repeat center 80px;
  10. }
Is there any solution to this problem?

Say I have a text area. When the user clicks a button the entered text displays in a DIV. If there's too much text to fit in that DIV then the overflow text (the text that doesn't fit in the first DIV) displays in an adjacent DIV. Is there a way to know if there's "overflowing" text and, if there is, if there a way to know what that text is? Andrew Poulos

Background: I am working for a client putting a textbook online. The layout of the textbook is straight forward and is easy enough to style with <h?>, <p>, <uland <oltags. The text book also contains small images of a key that represent a key point within the text. In the printed book, these keys are positioned to the left of the text (in the margins if you will) and some paragraphs may have more than one key. It is important to the...

Hi, I'm working on a site that has a drop-down navigation bar on the top of the screen (in a separate php file), but whenever the menu drops down, the #header div expands over the body content. You can see what I mean at bkaneweb.com/LICF . It works fine in Firefox, but I can't seem to get it to work in IE. I've posted the code below: Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks! CSS: #header {

I have a box element that uses overflow: hidden and I want a link which at the bottom of the element to be visible. I can't make the link visible. Obviously I'm having problems so I was wondering if there's anything other than overflow : hidden that will give me an absolute 'height' and make the link visible. Pat

Hi all! I have some pictures on a page that I'm moving around with javascript. I'm just setting the style.top member. I don't want the image to overflow the parent container if I move it to a 'bad' position. I'm setting the overflow attribute in the style, but I'm still seeing the image go outside of the boundaries. Any idea's what I'm missing? var Obj = document.getElementById( "imageId1" ) if( Obj ) { var currPosValue = 0;

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
