About showing GIF image in HTML

I don't know where to put this thread exactly, but i just want some recommendations about my problem....

I wonder why some of my GIF images doesn't show on my page.....

May i know what should be an image format to be used in HTML?

Here is the situation,
Im currently developing a form in JSP, every visit/refresh on that page will change the filename that will be used for confirmation... ..
( common on sign-up forms )....

I have 50 GIF images(testing) on a specific location that will be used as the source of confirmation image,
Now, the first 10 images are made by my groupmates, and i added 40 for a realistic testing......

In every refresh, all the filenames(GIF) are processed and randomly returns a choosen filename and embed on html(through scriptlet),

Now, All of my images are perfectly shown except of those images that were made by my groupmates....

Im 100% sure that the generated filename exists.

I've modified their work(GIF images), edit and save in uniformly choosen extension .GIF (not .gif), but it doesn't work either.....

What can you advice to me experts?

The JSP form above is only to illustrate the scenario..... i believe i forgot something here..... :(

well, I asked a similar question last week. One of the experts here told me that JPEG and PNG are the best to use.

I didn't really give much detail as to why JPEG and PNG:
- JPEG and PNG are both compressed, so they'll take a lot less space.
- PNG actually is a smaller file size AND a clearer image than GIF. SO two bonuses there.
- I used GIF for a while, until I myself asked the question. There shouldn't be anything wrong with using it, but like I said, JPEG and PNG are the way to go.

Now, i have observed that some of my images with .JPG extensions does not show on other browsers,

In my case, all of my images are showing in Opera 9.51,
And i have attempted the following browsers (IE, FireFox) to test if they are showing also,

and i realize that some of those images does not showing,
So, i suspect the following:

1. case sensitivity of the extension files, ( .JPG to .jpg )
some of those images that doesn't show, after changing there case
extension, it now shows, but not all....

2. The image editor,

I regret not being unable to give you any specific answer (s) to your questions, other than sometimes having a obsessive/compulsive "nit-picking" personality helps . Some questions you've answered yourself.

No-show images are often very difficult to track -- many, many factors -- play in the causes, among them: a non-valid document requiring some browsers to rely on faulty error recovery; incorrect path to the images and/or their directory (directories); mixed extensions and/or mixed uc/lc image extentions; corrupt images; not declaring image height and width (often an IE/6 issue); error in the script call; and more...
