How do I layout a form that will look the same in all major browsers

37 New Member
Hi

I have a form with -

13 text input fields
1 text area
2 radio buttons
4 buttons
1 check box
1 submit button
1 reset button,

each field is enclosed in div tags and each field has label text enclosed in span tags, for which I have created ids
and classes (I don't have a great deal of experience with CSS).

I made the form (web page) testing in IE7 which I eventually managed to get looking good,
but when I looked at it in Firefox everything was distorted.
I then duplicated the page and the ids and classes and tweaked everything to get it to look good in Firefox.
I then looked at both the IE7 and Firefox pages in IE6 and once again both pages were very distorted.
So I duplicated the Firefox page and the ids and classes (because it was the best looking of the two) and tweaked
it to get it looking good in IE6.

I originally posted this thread to the Javascript forum for advice on browser redirection so that I could load the
appropriate page in the appropriate browser.

I was subsequently advised to post the thread to the HTML/CSS forum in the hope of possible Hacks for IE being suggested,
meaning I will have one cross browser webpage (with a form) rather than three separate pages.

(I also found out from my previous posting not to do initial testing in IE7)

Any advice would be appreciated!

Here is a nice article called Accessible, stylish form layout. There are example forms you can view as well. I would also suggest this article as well.

Hope that helps.

I've started work on a css layout tutorial. I expect that it will take a minimum of several weeks to get to a complete draft stage. I hope to get better feedback by publishing individual pages. Hi, I develop an ASP.NET app which should be used from Internet, so I don't have control over what browsers will be used. I don't want to target every possible users, so I don't really mind is some user with a very ancient browser (Netscape 3 or 4, or IE 3) won't be able to view the site properly. However, I want that modern browsers (IE 5+, Netscape 6, Mozilla, Opera, and possible other browsers with new versions) to be able to...

Hi everyone, I'm sure this gets asked a lot in different flavors, but I'm either doing something wrong or this just won't work. I'm trying to create a table that's the height of the browser viewport. I wrote a test page like so: <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" > <head>

Hi, I am new to this newsgroup and need help in the following questions. 1. I am workin' on a GUI application. Does C# provides Layout Managers the way Java does to design GUI? I know that it can be done using the designer but I intentionally don't want to use that. The one reason is that you cannot change the code generated by the designer. The other could be that you have more free hand and control to design your GUI. 2....

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
