Redirect Question

40 New Member
Hi all,

Real quick question here. I'm a rookie to site security as well as site optimization. I want to prevent people from peeping at the directories of my site - for example, www.mysite.com/images will show them a list of all the files in my images directory.

What I did was make a simple index.html file and stuck it in that directory. All it does is redirect the user back to the main index page. Code looks like this:

<META HTTP-EQUIV='refresh' CONTENT='0;URL= www.mysite.com' >

Is this standard practice, or is there a better way to do this? And do the search engines frown upon such redirects? I've used my robots.txt file to keep them out of the /images/ directory anyway, but I figured I'd ask.

Thanks!

There are no standards, but the client meta-refresh is a poor choice.
Many sites put an index page in every directory, but the page generally has a site map or other content.

Hello, I have a page that creates a class, and then on certain conditions, redirects user to another page. The class has a Class_Terminate() function that saves itself to a database. The class comes from an includes ASP file, it isn't a COM object. Here's my code outline (not actual code for brevity - in otherwords, there may be syntax errors, but that's not the cause of the problem)

I now realize I probably should have tried posting this on the IIS board first.. I am running OWA 2003 Server as Front End server to my Exchange 2000 native domain. The FE server is secured by a 128 bit SSL cert. The OWA 2003 server is running on Windows 2003 server in a Windows 2003 native AD domain. At present, the server is configured so that user's have to specifically go to the URL httpS://myserver.company.com in order to access...

Hi, I have a simple question regarding the Response.Redirect method. Does the server stop processing the ASP code as soon as it encounters the Redirect command? Or does it ever continue to process the page? Basically, with the following code: Response.Redirect("../newpage.asp")

Hi there I have a program written by another company (it's a "web control" which returns a web-page: can I compare this to a servlet in the Java world?), which they think is causing problems on their server. But no-one really knows if this program is at fault because the problem only exhibits itself every once and a while, and the only thing they can see is that their web-users suddenly stop receiving responses.

Hi all, I have a quick question...I believe. On my web page, call it page A, I have a drop downlist with runat server enabled. When the drop downlist change event occurs it repopulates a table depending on the value selected on page A. After I redirect page A to some other page, call it page B, and use the IE Back button to change my selection on the page A the page is forwarded to page B without rebuilding the table on page A and...

Hallo!

I need to redirect to a page and HTTP Post data. The Response.Redirect does not work and the HTTPREQUEST option calls the page and waits for a response, but I need to transfer control to the page. Eg. Redirect and POST data. The only way I can see to do this is to format a HTML/POST, with Javascript, page and use the RESPONSE.WRITE option. Thanks

When a server encounters the line Response.Redirect("abcd.asp") in a ASP script, the server tells the browser that it has to be redirected to another page (which is abcd.asp, in this case). The browser then makes a new request to the server to redirect itself to abcd.asp after which the user gets redirected to abcd.asp. But in case of Server.Execute (or Server.Transfer), when the server

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
