Title attribute not displaying pop-up in Firefox 2.0.0.11

On a site I'm writing at the moment, I am using the <abbr> tag to expand on some acronyms (I'd use the <acronym> tag but I understand that's not really legitimate any more) within the body of the text.

While Internet Explorer and Opera both correctly display the "title" attribute of the <abbr> tag as a pop up on mouseOver, it is only visible in Firefox through the use of the "Properties " right-click option.

Is Firefox behaving as designed? Is it possible that one of my add-ons is preventing it from displaying the pop up (even on a fully permissioned site)? Or is Firefox broken? Perhaps there's another reason that I'm too daft to see.

To give an example of the code in question:

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. <abbr title="Cascading Style Sheets">CSS</abbr>

The title pops up on rollover just fine, but if you are asking about the javascript "onmouseove r" then you need to ask on the javascript board.

Be sure you aren't following Microsoft's non-standard JScript.

I am not using any Javascript (and I wouldn't go anywhere near Jscript unless threatened with red-hot tongs) it is not displaying on rollover on my copy of Firefox. I have a habit of using "mouseover" instead of "hover" or "rollover" which is probably a mistake given that it is a Javascript term.

However, if it is displaying for you and you are using the same version of Firefox that I am (see thread title) then I would hazard a guess that the problem is with my installation.

Hi all, It is a newbie's question about html tag "img". The attributes "title" and "alt" for "img" seems having the same function. So what is the main difference between them? Can i use them at the same time and set different values? Thank you for suggestions!

I am looking for opinions on the issue of length of title attribute. First of all, the current HTML 4.01 spec is rather vague on this issue... at least, it isn't explicit nor normative. The HTML 4.01 spec and WAI mention "short message", "short description", "advisory title", "informative link title" for the title attribute. Personally, I think that having a more than 128 characters tooltip does not meet the original goals of the HTML...

Hi, I fully understand the purpose of an alt attribute within a <img> tag but why would you use a title or summary attribute within, for example, a <p> tag. I have read books recommending that I use them but why? Does this enhance accessibility? Please provide reasons why one would want to use these? Thanks Burnsy

We've all seen this structure many times: <ul> <li><a href="..." >Click here</a></li> <li><a href="..." >Click here</a></li> </ul> Now it's obvious good practice to have sensible link texts, and also sensible use of title attributes on either the<a> or <li> elements. What's a good rule of thumb for these attributes ?

I'm placing a runat=server attribute on the <title> tag in my pages, so I can read/set the title text in code. The problem is that when I subsequently change the page in design view VS is removing the runat=server from the <title> tag. Unfortunately it does not do it all the time...maybe 50%. Brad

I'm interested in displaying a dynamic page title, rather than the static html <title>My Page</title>. In a previous posting, I had seen a suggestion of making the title into a server control using syntax like: <TITLE id="objTitle" runat="server" /> However, this works for a while, but VS.NET always eventually removes the runat attribute, and my code bombs. One reason might be that it isn't included in the <form> tag?? Can the...

Is there a standard way to get a descriptor object for an arbitrary object attribute - independent of whether it uses the descriptor/ property protocol or not. I want some kind of handle/reference/ pointer to an attribute. I know I could make my own class to do this (using the __dict__ of the object and the attribute name), but I would like to use something standard (at least a protocol) if it exists. All that is needed in the protocol...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
