CSS Extra Space Around My Divs and/or Images

3 New Member
I'm having some trouble with a design I'm working on. There are a few places where I have extra space and I can't isolate the problem.

Here's the page:
http://www.blueneckdes ign.com/css-help/sample1.html

and the CSS:
http://www.blueneckdes ign.com/css-help/style.css

Just below the top half of the light bulb image and above the rollover navigation, there is a space of about 3px that shouldn't be there (Mac OSX 10.4.10, and 10.2.8: Firefox 2.0.0.6). Curiously, on the same machines, IE 5 renders the page correctly.

On my wife's PC (not sure what Windows OS) IE6 adds a space at the bottom of that div (div#subnav) and to the right of it (or possibly to the left of div#copy).

I believe that I'm using the correct doctype:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"

The CSS validates, and the HTML validated before I inserted the JavaScript.

Can anyone help? I'm almost out of hair to pull out.

Hi, In the following code, everything looks fine on Explorer, but on Netscape there is a large white gap between the 'top' section and the 'bottom menu' section. I've set the style 'div img {display:block}' already to get rid on Netscape's problem with putting space around images, but it does nothing for this. Setting margins and padding to zero do nothing also. Here's the code:

I've built a site using tables for layout, and it looks ok in everything but in IE where it places extra space around the graphics that contain a rollover script. (Please see http://www.bentleysweb.com ) Below is a snippet of the table cell in question. How can I eliminate that extra space in IE? Thanks. -Ray

I have another table layout that looks good in all the browsers I've tested it in *except*, once again, IE on the PC. In IE there's extra space around some of the table cells making up the layout. Apparently, the problem lies with the bit of javascript I've used to randomly display a photo on the page. If I take the javascript out, the pieces of the layout fit together seamlessly. Put the javascript back in and gaps appear. Here's...

Okay I've got a problem which wouldn't be a problem if IE was not around, but yeah, IE is giving me trouble. I've got a tag-cloud that is on my page; everything was fine. Sort of like this: <header> <tags> <footer> I then decided I wanted to have two images at the top of it, like so: <head1><head2> <tags> <footer>

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
