difference between <h2> and <span>

1 New Member
Hi.. I have a doubt.
I have some code..
<span class="test1">
my screeen
</span>

I simply changed it to.
<h2 class = "test1">
my screen
</h2>

and I see an extra line inserted after my screen in the h2 tag.
I read somewhere that span tag does not consider spaces.
I wanted some help to know the solution to what to add in the <h2> style sheet.
The details of h2 are..

h2.test1 { font-family:'arial', 'helvetica','ch icago';font-weight:800;font-size:10pt;color :${myvariable}; }

do i change sth in this style sheet.
It is mandatory for me to use the h2 tag.

Kind regards,
Please help...

The difference is the display behavior of the two elements you mention: <span> and <h2>

There are two basic types of display properties for HTML elemets: block and inline

<h> </h> is block-level
<span></span> is inline-level

block-level elements will automatically have a line break before and after the content, inline will not. You can change that behavior in the style sheet:

h2.test1 {
font-family: 'arial','helvet ica','chicago';
font-weight :800;
font-size: 10pt;
color: ${myvariable};
display: inline;
}

so i have a <ul> and I allow the user to append items to it. The problem is that on mozilla the <span class="line"> which is just a line to divide the sections gets overlaped and doesnt move down and adjust to the newly added items like it does in iE. It just occured to me that i dont really have to use a span, and a html <hr> tag could do the trick -I will go try. But aside from that could some one explain why this occurs? And will I get...

Hello, I have a site which I've been developing locally with VS2k3 Pro. I have some browsercap information in my web.config to help identify Firefox as an upscale browser. It works great locally. Labels render as labels and so on. However, when deploying the site onto a different server, all my Labels render as <spans>, even in IE. I don't understand what's going on, I haven't had this happen to me before. What discrepencies...

Hi All, I'm working on a new site that has a two column layout underneath a title bar. If you check out: http://www.christianleadership.org.uk/scratch/mainpage.php using IE or Opera you will see what I am after as these browsers work fine. However, in FF the results are slightly different - take a look and you'll see that the <p>, within <div class="mainContent"> has shot way over to the right. I've been working on this for 2days now...

Hello, I'm using tiny MCE plugin on my oscommerce and it is inserting my website URL when I use insert image function in the emails. The goal is: Make it send the email with the URL http://mghospedagem.com/images/controlpanel.jpg instead of http://mghospedagem.comhttp://mghospedagem.com/images/controlpanel.jpg As u see, there's the website URL before the image URL.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
