Background Image won't display in Firefox

1 New Member
Well, I did a search and found a few references with a similar subject but no answers for me. At http://www.flyingscool.com/FC_eLearning.htm I have a table row with a background image using the following code. It displays fine in IE, but won't show up in Firefox.

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1.         <tr height="120px" style="background: #909090 url('images/FlyingsCool_Stores.jpg') no-repeat fixed right">
  2.             <td>
  3.                 <table width="816px" height="120px" border=0 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0>
  4.                     <tr height=32 valign=top>
  5.                         <td valign=top style="padding-left: 20" colspan=2>
  6.                             <font style="font-size: 16pt"><b>The Shops</b></font>
  7.                         </td>
  8.                     </tr>
  9.                     <tr height=88 valign=top align=left valign=middle>
  10.                         <td width="130px" align=center>
  11.                             <a href="FC_eLearning.htm?sel=0" title="Flying'sCool!'s eLearning Store">
  12.                             <img src=images/Store_eLearning.gif height="80px" border=0 alt="Flying'sCool!'s eLearning Store"></a></td>
  13.                         <td width="100px" align=center>
  14.                             <a href="FC_eLearning.htm?sel=2" title="Flying'sCool!'s Flight Shop">
  15.                             <img src=images/Store_FltShop.gif height="80px" border=0 alt="Flying'sCool!'s Flight Shop"></a></td>
  16.                         <td width="100px" align=center>
  17.                             <a href="FC_eLearning.htm?sel=3" title="Flying'sCool!'s Apparel and Gifts">
  18.                             <img src=images/Store_Apparel.gif height="80px" border=0 alt="Flying'sCool!'s Apparel and Gifts"></a></td>
  19.                         <td width="110px" align=center>
  20.                             <a href="FC_eLearning.htm?sel=4" title="Flying'sCool!'s Poster Store">
  21.                             <img src=images/Store_Posters.gif height="80px" border=0 alt="Flying'sCool!'s Poster Store"></a></td>
  22.                         <td width="110px" align=center>
  23.                             <a href="FC_eLearning.htm?sel=5" title="Flying'sCool!'s Reviews of Recommended Products">
  24.                             <img src=images/Store_RecommendedProducts.jpg height="90px" border=0 alt="Flying'sCool!'s Reviews of Recommended Products"></a></td>
  25.                         <td width="266px"></td>
  26.                     </tr>
  27.                 </table>
  28.             </td>
  29.         </tr>
  30.
I have tried putting the image in the root directory of the web site as well with no change. Any ideas?

Thanks

Your page has 299 html errors plus the lack of a doctype. It will be difficult to make this page work in a modern browser like Firefox until a lot of that is cleaned up.

In addition to taking care of the HTML errors, you might want to try using absolute paths to your images. I just had a similar problem (although they weren't working anywhere!) until I changed the paths. I'm sure it shouldn't have to be that way but it was the only way I could make it work.

There are acctually only 200 errors, but that still has to be fixed

go to http://validator.w3.org/ and validate your HTML,

then the next page will show you all your errors,
and what you have to do to fix them.

The background atr is no longer supported (I think) and you need to change to background-image. Microsoft added background as a their own html extension which is why it would work in IE. I haven't tried it, but I think it's like this:

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. <table style="background-image:
  2.    url(http://domain.com/images/pic.gif);
  3.    height=100px" cellpadding="5px">
  4.    <tr>
  5.      <td><p style="background: white">some text
  6.      </p></td>
  7.    </tr>
  8. </table>
  9.

I'm displaying an image that is also a link against a black background. In Netscape 7.1, the current background color is displayed as a horizontal bar below the image. This allows :hover effects that change the background color to have a visible effect, as this bar changes color. By default, it appears that the color is inherited from the body color, i.e. with no link style applied, the bar is black, and invisible against the background....

I have a function returning a string but the problem is that the color of it is blue which suits me well for some pages but not for others. Is it possible to "feel" what the color of the background in the current document is and set the color of the output accordingly? The background will be an image, in most cases. -- Kindly Konrad

Hi, I am trying to change the background of table TD's. The problem is that I have no access to the HTML code. SO I am trying to alter this using Javascript/DOM in an external .js file. I have tried lot's of things and spent hours on this, I thought I might give it a try here. One of the TD's uses HTML to set the background, the other one uses CSS styling:

Please bear with me as I am new to both Firefox and CSS. I have browsed through a number of groups looking for similar problems to my own but can't find a definitive answer. If anyone here can help me out I would appreciate your shared expertise so much. My background image is displaying fine in IE, and, sometimes in Firefox until I hit the reload button. It seems as if the browser is unable to locate the image and throws up a graphic...

I'm trying to code this without using javascript, and in IE it looks perfect, but in Firefox for some reason the images start like in the middle (top-down) of the <a></a>: <a class="sizechart" href="images/size_chart.jpg" target="_new"><img src="images/blank.gif" width="66" height="26" alt="" border="0"></a> (blank.gif is a 1 pixel transparent image) This is the class in my CSS file ..sizechart

It seems w3 don't want us applying widths to our inline elements, I can't see why not and indeed if you throw in the 'position: absolute' property (without any 'top' 'bottom' etc) Firefox, Opera & to some extent IE let you. This is ideal for making graphical links. Sadly though, when you apply a background colour (or image) underneath such a link IE gets literal about the 'absolute'ness of position and won't let these elements move/flow even...

CSS newbie again. I have a problem trying to get coffee mug images within anchor tags to center with my link text for a vertical list menu. If I use the horizontal/vertical properties of "background" or "background-image", the positioning only works with specifying pixels. If I specify the vertical position in pixels, the image gets cut-off at the bottom. I don't know what to do and would appreciate anyone's help. Specifically the code...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
