WMV streams on IE but downloads on Firefox.

Hi!

I have a WMV file ready for download. When opneing through IE, the file
streams correctly - just a few seconds of buffering and here we go.

When opening the same file in Firefox, the whole file is downloaded to
the harddisk and then plays.

Can I make the file stream in Firefox as well?

Thanks!
Andreas

AFAIK there's nothing you can do at your end, short of using a proper
streaming server instead of a file download. The normal behaviour is
for the browser to download the complete file, then execute it with
the associated application. The Firefox user can change that using
e.g. the DownloadWith extension.

Note: I'm not an expert, so please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Instead of a link to the WMV file, put a link to a playlist file on
your page.
Just make sure the playlist format is some that is recognized by a lot
of multimedia applications.

Also you should think about putting your video files in some more
standard format than MS's proprietary WMV. At least if you want to get
wider audience.

I'm reading up on streams and I have two articles that seem to conflict with each other. One article describes streams and lists a few of the major ones (FileStream, Memory Stream, Network Stream, etc.). It then goes on to discuss the restriction that streams only read bytes or byte arrays that the .net framework provides a StreamReader and StreamWriter class to do type conversions to and from bytes when using streams. The second...

Hello. Though Python supports threading, I think it is limited to python code - as soon as you issue a command that uses an external (C?) module, all of your python threads hang until this command returns. Is that true? I'm using urllib2 to download many files, and I have a double problem: 1. downloading all of them is painfully slow since it's serial - one has to finish before the next request gets sent. 2. my GUI becomes non responsive...

Hi all. Does anyone have any clue why any big FTP downloads I do in either FireFox or IE always terminate after two hours? It's always within a minute of the two-hour mark. I'm pretty sure it's not the FTP server's fault, as it has happened at multiple sites. Probably not ISP, as it followed me from one (ADSL) to another (cable). So by elimination, the problem would seem to be at my end. They don't fail, they simply stop and say they're...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
