Need recommendation on website revenue generation -- subscription-based or sponsorship models?

Hi,

I need to set-up a forum (or blog) whose main users would be smaller
enterprises needing information, and posting responses regarding
current & recent developments in any industry and social trends. The
purpose for this content is for shaping advertising, marketing and
production decisions.

Any recommendations on the best approaches for website revenue
generation? Would enough people pay subscription fees for such
information, or would enough people view the website for free, and
hence attract sponsorship?

Any websites helpful for subscription and sponsorship decisions?

Thank-you

Hi, we have some major GC issues at present with a system we're trying to put live. It's a live calculation engine that's distributed across about 30 Java server processes. A set of processes called objectservers sit between the core infra and a Sybase DB. Two of the main objectservers are set up with 2Gb Heaps as they need to cache large amounts of objects and accept 500-600 incoming RMI connections when heavily loaded. We're running the...

Hello, my stylesheet shows different colors for visited, active and hovered links. It works fine in IE 6, but in Opera 7 the color for the active link (red background) is never shown. How to explain this? Here is my code: (code optimization will be done later) 1. The HTML file <!doctype html public "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head>

I'm building a table to store revenue and units sold data for products. What's the best design for storing the dates? Having 13 fields (year, Jan, Feb...Dec) or having 2 fields (year, month)? It would seem that 13 fields is ok since that's a constant, but I'm not sure. -John

Until now I programmed a lot with C++ and Java. Now I want (have) to do some programming with Visual Basic. Which software do I need for this ? Which is the best GUI development tool for Visual Basic? When I search through Google it seems to me that most of the introduction think that Visual Basic is pre-installed. But I did not found a Visual Basic compiler on my Win2000 system. Where can I download the VisualBasic environment for...

Has anyone experienced problems this week with the MSDN website: https://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/. If I click any of the links below "Subscription Benefits", it brings me to a Passport login page that says Passport is temporarily down. I "sometimes" get around that by clicking the sign in image from subscription home. Right now, nothing works. Pages just stall then display an error message. It's been like that all week. I...

Hi Folks, I've been away from this NG for quite a while, persuing other interests etc. I have made a few posts / replies here lately, and find this whole NG thing a little awkward and cumbersome.(I'm using Microsoft Outlook) Compare this with the hotrodders.com bulletin board (http://hotrodders.com/forum/) and you'll see what I mean ... it's awesome. You can include pictures with your posts (either as attachments if they are from your...

Hello all, I have a unique situation. I am currently trying to save a complete web page that requires you to login with a user name and password. To be more specific, here is the web page I want. www.eventid.net This site requires you to have a subscription in order to see all the event IDs. What I would like to do is have those event IDs stored locally on my compuet. Now I could do this by logging in, saving each of the 65,000 pages,...

Just a few questions if anyone could oblige. I'm looking into buying a few of copies of Visual Studio 2005 Professional, but am unsure whether to get them with the MSDN Subscription or not. I've been looking on the MS website here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/aa718657.aspx which compares the different options, but it hasn't really answered my question. My take on that is that you get all this free software for testing

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
