Structuring stylesheets --how to?

I'm looking for advice on how to structure CSS stylesheets to make
working with them easier. I'm thinking of things like

- grouping of rules
- what makes a good selector
- gainfully using the cascade

I'm already using a preprocessor (simple embedded Ruby, ERb, script) so
I can define symbolic constants.

Beyond that, I'm interested in how to make application of the stylesheet
easier on the browser. A cursory look has brought up only a single
reference (http://www.mozilla.org/xpfe/goodcss.html).

A note of caution, the above resource looks at the issue primarily from
a parsing perspective. Most authors instinctively dislike using a class
when they can target an element with selectors instead. Parsing such
requires more effort, but this is unlikely to be an issue except in
extreme cases.

The plus side of not using classes is increased flexibility and greater
separation of content and styling. This can pay off when you need to
make changes later.

For those of you who think that using XSL/XML to create your HTML output from a PHP application is not a viable proposition as XSL is a clunky language, it is too verbose and it cannot get the job done, then I say THINK AGAIN! By understanding how XSL works I have taken each of my page layouts, constructed a library of reusable XSL templates (equivalent to subroutines) and built a set of generic XSL stylesheets which can be used for many...

How do you make a loop iterate early without using a GoTo? (I guess I've done too much structured programming and I really don't like using GoTos.) Here's my code ... For Each Thing As OFI In FileInfo If Thing.Displayed <> True Then GoTo Iterate 'skip this entry; try next one End If

I'm having difficulty structuring a Tkinter menu entry. Here is the command in question: self.finkmenu.add_command(label='Update List of Packages', command=self.authorizeCommand(self.scanPackages)) When I start my program, it crashes because it's trying to run the command self.authorizeCommand. The reason I'm structuring it in this fashion is that this command takes another command as an argument--in this case, self.ScanPackages.

I use HTML and CSS stylesheets. How do I set up a grid like the one used at http://www.allpro-re.com/searchresults.cfm?searchType=office (and click on a house)? Everything is put into a table but I don't understand the CSS part of it and I don't want the CSS set up like that. I like external CSS.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
