Recommendations for Blogging software?

A friend wants me to set him up with a "blog". I could create a
database-driven site using ASP.net and a few forms but I gather there are
tools for just this job. Any recommendations ? Nothing fancy, and a
mainstream product would be preferred.

Seconded. I use and like them.

But if you're just dying to host it yourself, look at phpNuke.
You need a host that supports PHP and MySQL.

One further reflection - he wants to integrate it with his home page
(currently pleasantly uncomplicated). Does that make a difference?

Blogger will let you upload to a directory on another server via FTP so he
can make
/blog or whatever.
You can edit the template totally tomake it just like the rest of the site.

If his ISP doesn't offer the server side services required to do a Blog,
yes, it means he has to find a web server that does and move. He'll
also have to learn how to code and debug php.

His life, after that, will be forever changed and he will put aside
childish things...

There's been a lot of blogs started in Python, but given the recent spate of web frameworks, I'm surprised that some blogging package hasn't taken front seat yet. Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows.
